Return to Full DiscussionConnorVey03yI'm a noob to head phones so excuse me being absolutely clueless. I own a pair of 2013 Astro A40's, but they just died on me. I want a new pair of surround sound head phones but I don't know how to tell if a pair of head phones are 7.1 compatible. I would like to get a good pair of head phones and add a Mod Mic to them. I've heard a fair amount about these. Would these be a good choice for me? NeenerMan2193yConnorVeyA) Two ears, two high quality drivers is all you need. Perception of position and space in nature is the change in pitch, volune and delay from one ear to another. A game with a good sound engine such as BF4 will reproduce such qualities. B) stay away from gaming marketed headphones, youre paying for more than what you really get. Theyre products, not something that took upwards of a year to get materials, tuning and science to create a headphone... Not a product. C) open back headphones give the best sound stage and imaging but will often lack low end. Closed back headphones dempending on what they are could be dampened to open up the soundstage and will often have better bass. The more open, less bass, better natural sound and imaging. Go to headfi.org and start looking through forums. Look for what you want. Look for what best fits you, dont ask what best fits you. Anything could be used to game but depending on what experience you want will change what sound signature you want and even how mich you'll spend. Assuming since you said youre new and owned Astros (for the love of god, stay away from them). It wouldnt hurt to invest in a DAC and amp combo. The SMSL SD793-ll is on massdrop and drives just about everything BUT its amp doesnt quite match the DAC. it makes sounds a bit brighter than what it should but it powers everything... So you cant go wrong. Id hate to see the Fiio E10K if people think the SNSL sounds better. I use the SNSL for the DAC to power HD 558s. Spevi02yConnorVeySurround sound headphones are a joke these will have much better quality sound but I would suggest you invest in a fiio dac and amp these may not have the same amount of bass that you are used to but they really aren't supposed to.
