[Ongoing] Quilt Patterns Discussion
Does fabric make a difference? Yes. Let me answer my own question. When I first started quilting 15 years, I bought fabric at big box stores. I've sewn for over 40 years, so I know quality of fabric. I didn't buy any cotton that was stiff. If it's stiff in the store, it will be stiff in your quilt. Some of it never washes out soft. I would look for the better quality, tighter woven fabric, 15 years ago, the fabric at the big box stores was ok qua...

Beginning Cameras
Hey guys! I've just recently become REALLY interested in photography. I have a decent Fujifilm high-zoom point-and-shoot(Finepix HS 25EXR), but I find it lack-luster and not particularly good at any one thing. it takes decent pictures, but not great

Massdrop x Fitsok Merino Hiker (3-Pack)
Here's my review of these Fitsok Hikers. I bought 3 drops (9 pairs). For reference, I also bought 12 pair total of the Darn Tough hikers in 2 previous drops. First off, if anyone would have asked me a few months ago if I would EVER invest ~$220 in socks in a few months, I would have told them they're nuts!
I live in FL, so I'm hiking 12 months/yr. At the beginning of this year, I locked into hiking ~10 miles every other day (~150 miles/...

Advanced Elements AdvancedFrame Kayak
I have two of the older, more modular West Marine versions of this kayak. Something to note about care and protection - do yourself a favor and pick up a can of Atsko Silicone Water Guard. One can is enough for two kayaks/two separate coats (you only need one). Sit your kayak out in the sun for 10-15 minutes until it's completely warm and the fabric is flexible. Spray on evenly on all the fabric surfaces (this INCLUDES the inside tubing!), let dr...

Massdrop x Naked & Famous Ichiban Selvage Denim
Hi again, I'd like to help out by explaining a few things:
SIZING: I haven't tried the Weird Guy fit, but I own a pair of Skinny Guy fit heavyweight jeans, and compared to these they seem a little bit roomier in the thighs and with a slightly higher rise. So you don't wear these jeans on the hip but on the waist and your crotch has some room.
FITTING: Denim stretches... a lot!!! My midweight selvedge jeans have stretched 2 inches per side (4 inc...

Free Spirit Fabrics to close
I just read the news about Free Spirit Fabrics shuttering their doors. We've had a lot of their fabric drops up in the past. I hope that the designers they work with will find a home. Below is the link from their website. http://freespiritfabrics.

[Ongoing] Quilt Patterns Discussion
Hi! I’ve been quilting for decades, love it, am a fabric-holic and have worked in a quilt shop and taught beginning quilting. I think the most important thing for a beginner is to understand how important precision is. If you don’t measure, cut and then sew your quarter inch seams accurately your finished quilt measurements won’t work out and your quilt won’t be straight. Having the right tools, starting with a sewing machine that does it’s j...

Advice for a beginning photographer in an art class?
I'm in an art class that requires me to learn a wide range of skills, and my teacher wants me to get into photography. And I want to learn photography, so it works out– except I don't know where to start. I bought a Nikon N60 for next to nothing at a

[Ongoing] Quilt Patterns Discussion
Hi everyone. Love reading everyone's comments so far. All good advise. As you continue on your quilting journey questions will arise. Missouri Star Forum is a great place to seek out advise. Their are beginning members and advanced members. I have picked up some good tips from Jordan Fabrics and their kits are pre cut which is nice if you have arthritis and trouble cutting your fabric. Along the way you will make quilts, quilts and more quilts....

Cheryl Ann’s Design Wall
My design wall arrived at the beginning of the week. I found it easy to follow the assembly directions, but a bit awkward doing it alone on 72x72 size wall. It worked though. The flannel is tight once the unit is assembled and fabric blocks stick just fine, even the rows I sewed together stuck on the fabric reliably. However, after only 4 days of use when moving the design wall, one of the clips that hook on to the frame broke. Very upsetting con...
