Not trying to be snarky, but if you're going to be spending multiple days in remote places backpacking and/or climbing, it's dangerous to rely solely on your phone for navigation (plenty of tragic stories related to this problem every year - ever heard the saying "live by technology - die by technology"). What the most versatile pan out there?
I am cast iron all the way. Virtually impossible to damage, they live an eternal life. They are basically the highlander of cookware. Learning curve...? If you have cooked with something, anything other than non-stick then you can cook with cast iron. All you need to learn is the seasoning process. Which is only difficult initially.
