I've always loved iems but never could afford a serious pair, the planets must have aligned for me finally at 59. This old retired drummer will enjoy the U4SE I think....do they need time to run in, play in, burn in? Thank you Audio64 for making this possible!

ecleinThe general consensus is that armature drivers do not require burn-in. I am sure you will enjoy these. Congratulations, and welcome to a new aural experience!

ecleinI'm a fond user of the U4SE with ADEL filters as opposed to the apex filters offered in this drop, and it seemed to me at the very least, the sonic texture is rather chaotic right out of the box, seeming as if all the drivers are screaming at you. But after 20 to 30 hours of playback, they gradually tone down, and the 4 drivers start to sing as one cohesive unit.
Whether it is the "burning in of drivers," "electrical current pruning of the cables," "loosening of the initially stiff ADEL filters," or whether it was simply a phantom phenomenon, who knows... But from my subjective experience, there was definitely a dramatic change in sound, for the better of course.
I found the U series to heavily rely on eartips. Comply tips were never the choice for me as they are quick to wear and tear, and they tend to soak up the sub-bass and high trebles. I quickly modded a pair of Shure olive tips as they are by far the most condensed foam tips I've seen (aside from the almost equally dense Westone Startips), and lo and behold, I could pick up more of the sound qualities that were missing from the Complys. I've recently tested out SpinFit eartips, and boy are they a game-changer. Shure olive tips tended to make the U4SE a tad warm, and I deemed it necessary since, as I alluded before, U4SE tends to be very peaky right from the get-go. But as the tonal chaos tones down over time, they started to feel a little too warm for my liking, and opted for SpinFit (came with the Lyra IIs from a drop couple of months ago ;) ). With the SpinFits, you can really pick up the sub-bass, visceral in quality, and the once initially peaky and ear-piercing highs now rounded out nicely after "burn-in" is very pleasurable and definitely frisson-inducing.

DicloneusThanks, I'm a firm believer in "well something happened" as I've heard differences over time in all of my audio pieces. Thanks again!

DicloneusI agree with you 100% on the drivers settling down after more hours of play. Definitely was the case with U4SE. And my experience with the spin fits was along the same lines as yours. The more these drivers belt out the sound, the more it gets refined.

ecleinhey eclein. hope you're having some great time with your U4-SEs. just had an epiphany moment and wanted to share it with you and @RM44 . try out final's Etype eartips. They allow more space for the highs and mids to extend further, providing a much wider and spacious soundstage much equivalent to a pair of semi-open circumaurals. http://snext-final.com/en/products/accessories/detail/earpiece.html#product_1
