will this support the weight of my m14?
Is this a good travel tripod? Or I should wait 3 Legged Thing Punks Corey Tripod w/ AirHed Neo
After buying a generic carbon tripod/ball head from everyone's favorite online store named after a long river, I'm not feeling the price. For about 1/3 of this, I got a very nice 8-layer carbon tripod, with monopod-convertible leg and reversible center column. Max height of 66 inches. The ball head is smooth enough for me and uses standard Arca-Swiss plates. With the money I didn't spend on my tripod, I bought a generic gimbal head, disassembled it and smoothed out the bushings with some 600/800 grit sandpaper, and reassembled it with proper litihium grease for a silky-smooth action. The combo is sturdy enough to support my DSLR and 170-500 Sigma (with center column all the way down) for birds-in-flight pics.
I guess if brand names is your thing, this is a good deal?

What was the generic carbon fiber tripod that you bought? Interested because, it has been an ordeal for me to find a good stable tripod for my BIF shots.

Mine is Neewer brand. Just search for Neewer Carbon Fiber Tripod. Then search without the brand name once you know what it looks like.
it looks juicy
I have a different 3TL Tripod and love it. If I was in the market for one, this would def. be something I would be interested in. If anyone has any questions I can answer I would be happy to.
Can this support a 300mm f2.8 lens attached on a Pro body?
agni
Absolutely! It has a load capability of 30kg. A pro body and 300mm f2.8 is approx 7.5kg.
what if you find this same exact tripod for a way better price? Will they match it?

We typically have the best price because we purchase the product as a group and negotiate the deal as such. That being said we always want the best price for our community members and if you find a price that is better post a link, this way we can go back and renegotiate the deal.
Massdrop is more of a place to come and find high caliber products, discuss those products as a group and purchase those products together. You will find that we can offer more value than just the price with a community that is always willing to share their knowledge and experiences.
Thank you for participating in the disscussion .
Cheers!
just 14% discount for a 1 month+ wait. Meh
I have one of these. I wouldn't pick it as a first tripod, it's not steady enough to handle wind, long exposures, or heavier lenses, and the ball mount is too small to change position with the predictability and control I prefer. But it's small and light enough to take along for more casual shoots or when I think a shooting opportunity might show up unexpectedly, and it has a lot of flexibility in the ways it can be set up.
Not sure about the deal on this one. Available on Amazon for the $299 price. No shipping for Prime members.

Looking for something like this but with flip lock, I find the thread lock ones way to tedious... suggestions ?
