The switch LED's need to be soldered in I assume? Just got mine and it def does not seem they are "hot swappable".
I hope I didn't make a mistake by purchasing this ...
Hey @XiK would you mind providing us with information regarding pin/led numbers/configuration? I thought that came in the package but apparently they don't. Now customers are frustrated and pissed: https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/9ud0jr/help_flashing_xd75_from_md/?utm_source=reddit-android & https://www.reddit.com/r/olkb/comments/9ub1qg/help_flashing_xd75_from_md/?utm_source=reddit-android Maybe you want to enlighten us?

Thanks for flagging guys, I have redirected this to our vendor and hope to hear back soon!
XiK
Thank you, that'd be great. Also The pins for RGB underglow and key backlight would be of great interest. Just have him post the whole uncompiled firmware.
Are the keys a bit crooked in a few of those pictures? Is that to be expected? Does it depend? Ty!
trialhero
It can happen. Don't know if it's the caps or caps together with 3-pin switches.
trialhero
The 8* key isn't fully seated into the socket if that is what you're seeing . In general it's about as straight as my $45 knockoff with hot swaps, but depends on a lot a factors, switches, caps, & tolerances between the two.
Hello. Will the xd75 preset layout on config.qmk.fm work for this keyboard?
Load 4 more comments
Thanks for that. I'm still waiting for shipment. Can't wait !
Karuk
Me neither - gotta stay strong haha
Does this PCB support per-key LEDs? (that you’d have to solder in)
Does this product we can use the same QMK firmware of XD75 ?
north facing or south facing leds?
Boy_314
They have replied with images of the PCB earlier if that helps, but it might not show up while just scrolling through as the reply is collapsed. Here's a link to it: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/75keys-aluminum-mechanical-keyboard-kit/talk/2211278
Loyen
From the image it seems like they are north-facing.
Does this kit come with the keycaps shown above?
bell669
if you add them on when purchasing, yes.
So I am digging this keyboard and joined in cause why not, but for now this pre-soldered hot-swap Kailh switch will NOT support RGB, right?
So to confirm, all RGB/LED additions need to be done via soldering and is not ready out of the box? Am looking for just a simple backlit
xeyes
RGB underglow seems like it's presoldered, if the images here are true: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/75keys-aluminum-mechanical-keyboard-kit/talk/2211278
But in-switch LED's have to be soldered.
Curious to know, in SMT PCB's, Kailh box switches,MX compatible switches can swap in same pcb?
Jagdeesh
Yes. Unless you're talking about low profile kailh.
How does the bottom of the case look like?
@XiK Hey, could you get/show a picture of the PCB(/PCB rendering)? I'd literally like to get a better picture of what I'm buying ;) Also will it fit in the Datamancer hardwood case? https://www.massdrop.com/buy/datamancer-60-hardwood-magnetic-keyboard-case

Thx!
rumlyne
Sadly he never replied
It would have been nice to have a split option too.

True. Hope md folks would offer it in the future, and with a low profile switch...
dolby
Search for the helix keyboard. I think Dog Bone Design may be getting a shipment soon.
@XiK To echo other users, I would like to know if there is any soldering required for this kit. It doesn't appear it's available pre-assembled like the previous drop. Is there any soldering required for this kit?
thelogician
the pcb is SMT, w/ Kailh hot swap sockets. No need to be soldered.
XiK
Thank you for your quick response!
That’s interesting, The keycaps are aligned straight up and down.
Justicemikles
You mean Ortholinear? Yea, that's what this is for.
what an interesting keyboard o:
If I'm correct, I believe the board is the same as XD75Re from KDRepublic: https://kprepublic.com/collections/xd75/products/xd75re-xd75am-xd75-xiudi-60-custom-keyboard-pcb.

I think that was in the original post that had XD75 in the URL. This is a different listing for the same board.
RehnMan
In China PCB is never yours. 🙄
@XiK Any chance of the keycaps being offered seperately at some point?
Anakey
Sure, we'll work on it :)
XiK
+1 Please!
What's the difference between this PCB and XD75RE PCB? Someone please advice.

I see your point.. multiple of full Us is not a problem... But the ideas you are suggesting is too cumbersome, and mutilating.. And cutting the stems or putting different profile (chocs) will disfigure the aesthetics of the board. We need to accept this limitation of the board. But if XD75Re also did not have this flexibility, then this board is definitely an improvement over that one. Would you agree with that?
RxKey
Too cumbersome for you maybe ;) Asthetics are highly subjective. I don't need to accept anything.
Of course from your point of view I'd imagine it to be a great choice and although it doesn't tick all my boxes I might even get one myself - I may need to mod it but who cares. The price is decent!
I'll wait for the new XD75re rev to come out. I definitelly want the built in PCB RGBs and i guess it will be released before this drop is shipped.

I readed about it on r/MechanicalKeyboards/ then got confirmation from KPrepublic's support and the guy behind the XD series.
Gankutsuou
I just searched around on r/mk and even looked at u/kprepublic and I didn't see any talk of a new rev.
Can you reprogram the keys so that the numpad isnt on there at all?
anneliese
Yes, but you have to live with the "wrong" keycaps, if you don't have another set at home reflecting your layout.
Hello Massdrop. Helps out a keyboard noob hopefully?
This is super appealing to me because I really dig and have wanted to try out a linear grid keyboard, but I am not fond of commuting to ortholinear like the planck because my fingers don’t really hate me when i reach up to that number row and id rather not reprogram my brain to become completely dependent on a new style.
However these keycaps will not do. I thoight the compabitibily with ”KLE Custom Key” was a kind of standard keycap profile to search for replacements, but it seemed to me to just be a fancy way to make an image of your dream keyboard layout. (Almost positive there is more to KLE to this but I couldnt really figure out what it was).
Is this a standard profile I can find replacement keys for? Is there a way to get a custom made keycap set for this layout.
MdotMaxson
Hi, this looks like a dsa profile (all rows/keys have the same shape). They've become fairly popular and there are a lot of great dsa keycap sets. Just pay attention that you get all keys as a 1u key (ctrl, shift, etc.)
MdotMaxson
The keycaps are replaceable, with whatever profile you prefer. The ones in the image appear to be DSA profile, and the layout can be edited somehow (QMK / etc. Need to talk to the seller for info on that) and some flashing methods do support importing keyboardlayouteditor mappings. (That's how I map my Ergodone and XD75re) Regardless someone on reddit / r/mechanicalkeyboards should be able to help you program it how you want it.
The drop details state QMK compatibility - does anyone know what the PCB is called in the QMK keyboards directory?
straypacket
Probably wont hit the repo until its released
straypacket
I would also like to know as I wont be using the default layout.
@XiK any information on when it will be available to us?
I'd love to be able to order the keycaps without all the other stuff for my custom ortho builds.
What kind are the hot swappable pins. Are they already soldered to the pcb.

shree
It is kailh hot swap sockets and they come soldered to the board
This board will not require you to solder
Wait,
first one had been to cheap, or this one is to expensive. We're talking about a couple of screws and hotplug switches.
search
First one: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/67632 and what measurement is taken for switch-price calculating at all? Cheers

Ty for your effort. Are the box switches given a new/altered generation or still the last one, many people are afraid to use to break their keycaps?
Makami
box switches will be the new gen
Impressive that this was relisted before the first buy shipped...

Yeah that too! Though in their defense, the last drop was pretty cheap for what we got. Especially because there was a "diy" option that saved 10 bucks.
rockydbull
That one also had more demand than expected, causing a temporary closing of the drop. They might have put their first offer a bit low.
Any one know how this compares to say the XD75Re? I've been thinking about getting that for a while (and I'll be honest, I didn't even look to see how the price of this compares).
EnsuingRequiem
XD75re is like $30-40 for the PCB, then a $15 plate plus whatever you want to spend on a case, or i think about $40 for a bent steel open case (no plate needed). Plus switches plus caps.
Not miles away from this price, and you are getting cheap switches if you take up the option. XD75 has holtites and rear LEDs fitted as standard on the PCB though which is pretty awesome
Think i bought all the core parts for mine from Kprepublic.
gerrofmyusername
The XD75re is $46 for the (holtite, not USB) PCB alone. Open bent steel case is $33 Plate + closed bent steel case is $52 Closed Anodized aluminum case is $77. Definitely cheaper to go with the XD75re if you want the open case (Have one and love it btw) but slightly less expensive if you wanted a closed or aluminum case.
