They are so TINY!!! I had no idea they were barely larger than the actual old school NES controllers! I had this image in my mind of the classic controller for the Wii... WOW, they are small! The layout is actually nearly identical, with the sticks, d-pad and face buttons being in nearly identical layouts compared to each other. The face buttons are in a symmetrical diamond, vs the classic controller's wide face button layout. The overall face dimensions are a little smaller than the Wii classic controller, though they actually come out pretty similar in size, if you consider the way the LED trim extends out a bit more than the face... On that dimension, they are very similarly sized...
The major difference is the thickness! It's only half as thick as the Wii Classic controller, and it's about the same face dimensions of my NES doggone controller, but STILL THINNER than the dogbone!
I'm really blown away by how tiny these are! Particularly how thin!
If I had any complaints, it'd be with the tiny thumb sticks and the shoulder buttons. The Wii Classic controller is twice as thick, but has full sized thumb sticks. I feel like the little thumb sticks on the 8bitdo are an afterthought. I feel like they won't be as accurate, due to the smaller range of motion, and I feel like I could HULK SMASH them at any moment! I do hope they are durable. As for the shoulder buttons... The tininess of the controller and the way those shoulder buttons are played out could be a double edged sword. I feel like I need to grip the controller to keep from losing it, and yet the entire top arc of it is button... Flush button hidden in the trim. I just KNOW I'm gonna unintentionally press that. No other complaints though... The buttons all feel nice, and it really feels like a good controller!
I'd also say that I'd be more than willing to have a thicker controller, if it got me full sized analog sticks, a beefier battery, and rumble to consume said beefier battery. Maybe it's a thing 8bitdo would consider in the future. For now, this controller will do nicely!

richfilesThanks for the review. Interestingly, I like the analog thumbsticks! I think they have a nice even resistance to them. The reason my gamepad sits on a shelf, gathering dust, is the unusably inaccurate dpad. I really wish 8bitdo would do something about this (well-known and well-documented) problem. All they'd have to do is make a design adjustment to the PCB contacts to fix it.
To anyone who needs an accurate dpad and/or wants larger thumbsticks, I can heartily recommend most of the aftermarket Playstation2-to-USB adaptors, which work well in Windows. That + a used PS2 gamepad is your cheapest option (and cheaper than these 8bitdo turds). If you must have wireless, I hear there are many effective unofficial drivers for Windows, Android, iOS etc. for PS3 gamepads. Finally, if you are on Windows and don't mind paying a bit more, the Xbone gamepad is wonderful (but avoid Xbox360 gamepads like the plague--yes, including the redesign with the twisty dpad).
