I'm very displeased, THE UNIT IS DIRECT INPUT. The unit does NOT use XInput, meaning it cannot be used directly with Steam games or be used like an Xbox styled input. You will need to use alternate software as an XInput wrapper. Ideally I'd like to use InputMapper because it does not use call hooks that can get you banned in some steam games. Unfortunately, the only alternative seems to be a GitHub fork based off of DS4Windows, then run the GitHub forked app EVERY TIME you wish to use it in XInput mode (io button and R1 at the same time).
I literally just bought this to use as an alternate to a WiiU Pro controller (I like the FC30PRO layout) and for my girlfriend to use when she plays Stardew Valley on her Surface Pro (wirelessly, mind you). The massive headache of this controller NOT USING XInput is ridiculous.
A workaround to communicate with InputMapper is perhaps to load the PS3 extend-firmware (I'm not sure you can load both the Wii AND PS3 extend firmware at the same time). This may make it show up in IM's device manager, but I have not tested it yet.
Seriously, the fact this unit cannot interface as a bluetooth controller and just use XInput commands is ridiculous and just indicates the price: it's cheap. It is probably worth 20USD, as it is using hardware from pre-2000.
mcdeansI have one, and doing power+r1 starts it in xinput mode if you are using a usb cable. According to the forums, the xinput driver can't recognize the Bluetooth driver on windows.

Check the table where it says how to use Xinput. The one that I got from a previous drop didn't need a firmware update to support Xinput.
Edit: Ahh, I see that your beef is Xinput over Bluetooth. Never tried that; not that I'd care anyway. My one true beef with 8bitdo controllers is their lag over Bluetooth, but I don't mind using wired controllers so that's not an issue for me.
