Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene or ABS as it is commonly known is a thermoplastic that works extremely well for 3D printing systems. It is a lightweight material that can be either injection molded or extruded. The 3D printing community considers ABS a superior plastic to PLA for small parts, because it has lower friction coefficients and requires less force to extrude. A quick test to tell the difference between ABS and PLA plastic is that ABS is shiny and PLA has a matte finish. This is partially because ABS requires higher temperatures for optimal printing, and 230 Celsius is the recommended standard.
