Honestly this just looks like a different version of A Lansky. I understand its a $40 kit, but if you are truly into sharpening your knives look up the KME. It’s more expensive but for what you get it’s very justifiable. I went From absolutely ZERO sharpening experience to being able to put crazy sharp edges on all of my knives and even my buddies knives. KME is 1,000% worth it

A knife sharpening system is only as good as its stones, and these don't look very good

Deal breaker. The stones don't seem to be a good mix for this kit.

JaggiThat's not good. You can't even buy an assortment of stones for this kit. At least lansky has a lot available. I wish lansky would come out with a pro kit or something where the stones were bigger, and the rods were affixed to them so they don't move if the thumb screws loosen.

So I got mine in the mail the other day and just had the chance to use it. The poles that connect to the stones don't actually fit/ screw in. Anyone else have this problem?

gerketYou probably figured it out already - you kind of have to push the poles into the hole hard. I think you are actually threading the hole as you push the pole in.
Of course the 13 year old in me is thinking all kinds of other stupid things.

There seem to be a few issues of concern with this kit:
Some of the sharpening products on the Accusharp site carry a "Made in the USA" logo, but this 5-Stone Precision Kit does not. Is the claim on Massdrop of "Made in USA" for this kit correct? I rather doubt it.
Massdrop describes the kit as coming with four Aluminum-Oxide stones and a Ceramic stone, but the pdf instructions describe the kit as including three Aluminum-Oxide stones, a Diamond stone and a Ceramic stone.
If the pdf instructions are correct, the most obvious problem is that either the 320x Diamond or the 280x Aluminum-Oxide stones are actually the finest stones you can use on ordinary knives. The 1500 grit ceramic stone appears to be beveled and only suitable for sharpening serrated knives (and I'd have to wonder how suitable it would be for most of those, given the large range of different shapes and sizes used for serrations).
I don't know what grit rating system (or systems) they're using, but I'm not familiar with any common system where either 280 or 320 grit would be considered appropriate for a finishing stone in a knife sharpening setup.

JaggiThe beveled ceramic stone can be used on flat blades, you just don’t get as much surface contact. I use the edge of the Spyderco Sharpmaker stones all the time for flat blades.

Jaggi yeah, after reading the PDF I wish I didn't go for this. I liked the table stand thing. What is the deal with the stone grits!? The lansky kit is 120/280/600 and that works great, but I'd like a 1000 to finish. What is the deal with this ending at 280? I may email them and if I get a response I'll post.

Does this drop ship to Australia, and if so, what is the shipping cost?
There's no way to know without joining the drop, only to then find that it doesn't ship internationally.

To save a trip to pdf on their website. Makes no sense that extremely coarse is finere then fine:
Extremely COARSE Diamond (320 grit): Coarse grit used for aggressive reconditioning on extremely dull knives to repair and re-profile damaged blades. It is not recommended to begin with this stone every time. COARSE Alumina-Oxide (120 grit): Coarse grit stone ideal to maintain an edge that is very dull. MEDIUM Alumina-Oxide (180 grit): Medium grit stone to maintain an edge that is slightly dull and undamaged. FINE Alumina-Oxide (280 grit): Fine grit used for polishing and honing your blade for a longer lasting edge. FINE Ceramic (1500 grit): Fine grit used for polishing and honing your SERRATED blades for a longer lasting edge.
