The AcousticResearch M200 is a bit of a mixed bag. The consensus is that it is a bargain in terms of the sound quality it achieves, and hugely useful with regards to its Bluetooth functions. It is known for being slow, and a little clunky; although firmware updates seemed to have improved usage such as file tags greater than 128 characters etc. (just read a lot and this is from the top of my head; a headfi post mentioned ALAC support came with the firmware update, so Drops present version should be good) couple of useful things- reports of 400gb Sd cards working is true, although some users of lesser sizes were having issues and had to try a few Sd cards before the unit worked well. that being said, tricks for usage included ‘much faster operation and performance reliability if tags were stripped from files/files were kept basic’. most people with less issues reported their steps as formatting the Sd card in the unit (not sure about 400gb cards doing this), and to speed up file copy, putting the card back into a card reader to load it up with media. so fat32, confirmed working with 400Gb cards, best to not use tags. The music is where the focus has been paid, (budget spent) and many purchases couldn’t fault the audio, saying bargain and ‘brilliant’ (sound)! The apt x HD receive, and being able to use the class A to drive any headphones was definitely a strong theme that many declared ‘makes it a great buy just having this feature’. consensus for $100 it is exceptional sound quality, and the optional iems are matched for the electronics/great sound pairing.

I placed order of 2 M200 players and a pair E10 IEM in Feb, and I still haven't received my order yet after 3 months. First of all, Drop delayed to ship (I forgot what was the reason). Waited for 3-4 weeks and it was finally shipped on April 8 from the United States by DHL. The package arrived at Frankfurt on April 14, and since then no further update from DHL. I emailed and called DHL and they didn't know where my package is, unless the sender (Drop in this case) initiates an investigation then they will put more effort to track. I contacted customer support from Drop and they told me to wait and contact them again if I still haven't received it after 6 weeks have passed as the expected delivery of international shipping is 3-6 weeks. BTW, CS from Drop is responsive and nice, though not much they could help at that moment. For the time I've waited and the effort spent tracking the package, I'd rather not to buy again from Drop unless I live in the U.S. So, a few more days to wait. Fingers crossed.

An update on this product's performance and terribly disappointing Drop "warranty" behind it: Never ever buy anything from [Mass]Drop UNLESS you have bought it in the past or know, in advance, exactly the product you'll be getting. Otherwise, I have just discovered the very hard way, their "Returns" policy is basically NON-EXISTENT! The ONLY reason why you can return ANY of their products if it's defective. I am not only talking about "change of mind" but, as in the case of this crappy audio player, a UI so terrible it's basically "rubbish-on-arrival." Talk about "customer satisfaction..." PS. If anyone insists on getting this piece of junk, I'd be happy to get rid of it, half-price!

$106 for AR-M200 and which IEM you bought with it? I remembered that drop. Wish you post earlier because I've just got that set for roughly the price you paid, without the case :(

bhalejosAmazing how many people continue to mistake MD for Amazon--even after the name change. Seriously, all this can't try or listen first, Chinese Lo-Fi audiophile stuff is a long odds crapshoot--and it's even worse if you're relying on buggy drivers and updates to make the stuff work the way it was supposed. Only defense is to A) exercise a lot restraint B) do a lot of research first and, C) be very skeptical of everything you read!

I purchased theM200 and am pleased with the quality of sound, yet as many have noted , have problems accessing titles on the SD card. Sometimes it works, more often it crashes or reboots with searching for music mode. I am using Sandisc 128 GB card, formatted in FAT32, using the latest firmware. I have used both forward versions with the same problems. The onboard storage has exhibited no problems so far. Acoustic Research tech sais no more updates on firmware. Any help appreciated!

This is the link for the Chinese developers: https://technode.com/2018/10/09/ahb-grand-finals/. In the running for an award. They call it the "Auvi crystal clear music (AR-M200)". I would guess that it was developed for Acoustic Research from the get-go. I would also guess that for Acoustic Research to iron out the bugs in the firmware, they would have to start over with it. Not likely, as they seem to have told you. I too much like it, the sound quality is very good, and the class A amp barely even gets warm. I am currently filling up a 64GB card to see if that works better.

HeadCaseyMDThanks again for your info. That is my next step as well. If it works well with a 64GB card, I will just get used to the smaller usable storage capability. I have read most of the discussion and have found yours to be the most helpful. Thanks!

NicolaasThey are both TERRIBLE! I am trying to get rid of mine (without any help from Drop itself, btw) so, if you haven't bought it, STAY AWAY FROM IT. If you still insist, just let me know and I'll be happy to sell you mine for half-price.

Does anyone really knows if those clowns from AR company have fixed the serious problems occuring on the excisting firmware ??Have heard that many guys had to return M200 back due to those quite serious problems occuring during playback (stuck issues e.t.c.) there.... no wonder why M200's price here drops down to 100$.......

alexandrosShort answer, no. Just go read the reviews, it is still a mess to use but sounds much better than anything you would get in this price range.

alexandrosAgree. Even at that price, it's still rubbish. I am trying to find a way to get rid of mine, because Drop does not take Returns for, basically, any reason other than death-on-arrival.
