I have two of the older, more modular West Marine versions of this kayak. Something to note about care and protection - do yourself a favor and pick up a can of Atsko Silicone Water Guard. One can is enough for two kayaks/two separate coats (you only need one). Sit your kayak out in the sun for 10-15 minutes until it's completely warm and the fabric is flexible. Spray on evenly on all the fabric surfaces (this INCLUDES the inside tubing!), let dry in the sun for a little bit before moving out of the sun. Let sit for 3 days, then wrap up. Do this at the beginning of every season or every time you notice that water does not bead off the fabric as well (happens a lot in the center where people might scuff the fabric with the paddle and fold points where the fabric gets most crushed) and you'll protect the kayak from fading, and mildew. Make sure you dry the kayak out completely after each use. This involves completely gutting the kayak and pulling out everything for maximum exposure to air flow. Towel off the interior and make sure the fabric is 100% dry in every area before folding back up. Do not dry indoors without ample air flow. I continue drying at night with the garage propped open and a fan blowing air over the kayaks if they still seem damp.
It's very easy for these kayaks to get mildew even after one day of negligence. That said they're extremely convenient if you don't want to deal with kayak carriers and have the cargo space in your car.
