Well, I guess patience is a virtue, which I apparently lack. Bought one a couple of months ago for more. If I could add an emoji, it would certainly be a sad face.

LCaseyKwell how do you like it? i've been waiting for a drop on a dac/amp combo WITH SUB OUT. now here it is....lol I have a marantz sr6006 that is hobbling along (lots of strange issues with it) and am thinking about a replacement. wanted to switch over to cambridge audio but this is a great deal. Oh- marantz is used for desktop pc setup. Overkill I know, but not reliable enough for home theater use.

iguanajmI use mine strictly for my headphones, Grados, and I am pleased with the combination. For my home theatre set-up, I use TOSlink to connect my MacPro to a Pioneer surround sound amp, that has an internal DAC, which sends it to my JBL and Klipsch speakers. I wouldn't have thought to use the TEAC for anything else, but I will be moving my headphones to my office soon and that may be a better test of its full capabilities.

iguanajmAs someone who's using one for your exact described use scenario (amp/dac w/sub out for desktop) I can say it's absolutely wonderful. The volume knob is very satisfying and the auto on/off feature is nice as well. And it has plenty of power, ignore the power rating, if your speakers are even reasonably sensitive it'll be fine.
The main downsides I'd note are the bluetooth (it's ok, but occasional connection issues), windows drivers can be finicky (you can bypass this by just using optical instead of USB), and that the sub out has no filter on it (you have to use the crossover on the sub and it doesn't filter bass out of the L/R).
Overall I'd say it's 100% worth it, main thing that got me to pick this over the SMSL Q5 was the auto on/of and having a headphone amp. But if you don't care about those things you can maybe save yourself some money and get one of those (but it won't look as cool).
