Hello! Ok, so this I suppose is a very newbie question...I'm looking at the Airmotiv 5S speakers. How would this work with those? Would I be better off going with the LSR 305's to pair this with? Thank you in advance!!
ExecRecruiterBobI own Air Emotive 4s and I use a Schiit BiFrost DAC with them and they work peachy. I am sure the Airmotiv 5s will sound better its a different class of speaker, as the amps are built in. Plus the Airmotivs will cost you more I believe!

KimbaWLionThanks!!! The TEAC wouldn't be good fit because it's also an amplifier and the 5's are powered?

KimbaWLionActually I could grab the TEAC and go with the Elac or LSR350.

ExecRecruiterBobThe JBL LSR305 is a self-powered monitor that does not require an amp. If you plan on running this amp with just 2 speakers and no subwoofer, I'd suggest bookshelf speakers that put out a good bit of mid-bass: the Philharmonic Audio AA at $200/pair are the best value, followed by the Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 or 10.2 if you like a warm laid back musical sound.

Zorba922Geez, this gets confusing! How about the Elac's? Why would I want to buy the TEAC and not the audio engine D1 DAC?
ExecRecruiterBobI like the Emotivas as they do sound REALLY nice... You could buy and Amp/Dac or just the GUSTARD DAC-X12 USB Version as you can put a Y splitter on it and have a headphone source and use it to run your speakers though you would have to a no powered Volume control like a Schiit SYS that is the exact set up I have with my Lyr/Bifrost, I like Schiit stuff a lot! :-) I would love to see a Mass Drop on their gear one of these days for the balanced gear...

ExecRecruiterBobI know this is a coming a month after you posted, but maybe this will help. I own an Audioengine D1. I am on my second one after a lengthy customer service process that included Audioengine and Mackie, because the amp blew my monitors. The Mackies blew not from volume being too loud, but because I have had nothing but problems with the D1 on my Windows 10 setup. There are random crackles, static and the occasional white noise screech (which blew the Mackies) that happens without warning. Pulling the machine out of sleep seems to sometimes cause a surge but the new D1 is still a nightmare of unpredictable noise spikes. I have more than a dozen computers at home and ran the D1 with many of them to test. I have narrowed the issue to what I think is a USB 2 versus 3 issue and something to do with interference between the two. But I rebuilt my entire audio/video editing machine from the ground up and reinstalled latest drivers and a million other things, and the D1 still does not have a silent floor nor is it a good fit for me. I hate that the first DAC/Amp I bought has caused me no end of grief, as it has soured me somewhat on review sites, many of which were glowing in their recommendation of this inexpensive DAC Amp. Even if everything worked properly for this piece of equipment, it does not power my Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pros well, which is my mistake for not understanding what I should have looked for in a headphone amp. I can't recommend the D1 at all.

KimbaWLionCan you use Lyr to power speakers? I'm looking for a headphone/speaker amp.

CarlosUnchainedNo. Youd have to buy a power amp for the speakers.
