Eh, I guess I'll be "that guy."
This is a nice gesture, Massdrop, but you can buy this for $11.95 USD and prime shipping on Amazon.

edgie168Definition of "race to the bottom" on wikipedia:
The race to the bottom is a socio-economic phrase which is used to describe government deregulation of the business environment or taxes in order to attract or retain economic activity in their jurisdictions. An outcome of globalization and free trade, the phenomenon may occur when competition increases between geographic areas over a particular sector of trade and production
What jurisdiction is Amazon compared to Massdrop? Both companies sell products all over the world, and most likely no matter who you buy this from, it was likely made in China.

UrVAITguyInteresting that you don't understand the difference between a billion dollar company and a much, much smaller one like Massdrop.

edgie168Massdrop makes profit off the items it sells, while amazons markup is hilariously negligible, not even close what it needs to stay running, Amazon makes its money off PRIME and nothing really else

DarkshadeThat statement shows that you don't understand the difference between a billion dollar company and a much, much smaller one like MassDrop. They have different aims- MassDrop aims to stay in business while delivering a service. Amazon is playing a totally different game, and doing very well at it.

edgie168Interesting that instead of answering my question, you went straight ahead to presume I don't know something and thinly guise it as an insult. :D

UrVAITguyIs there anything on Massdrop for your thin skin? You should probably buy it, but then again I'm sure it'd be cheaper to look on Amazon.

edgie168Thin skin? Wouldn't a thin skin be someone who's bothered by your attempt at an insult? That's cute if you think you offended me. ;-)
And still you do not answer my question. You know the definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result?
But even if you're mad, I'll gladly answer your question: I've made over 10 purchases on Massdrop, all of which were either for items unobtainable elsewhere or for the best deal I could find. I shop Massdrop primarily because of the former. As for the latter, I point out these things because I think Massdrop appreciates the criticism. Why should their employees spend more precious manpower on common items that can be undersold elsewhere? Surely it would make more sense for them to focus on items where they get an exclusive deal or the rarity of said items makes it nearly impossible to find elsewhere?
Bonus points if you can answer me without yet another insult.

UrVAITguyWill you just STOP being reasonable!? How DARE you insinuate that someone pay $5.75 less for the same product elsewhere? This madness has got to stop.
Seriously this is dead on: Why should their employees spend more precious manpower on common items that can be undersold elsewhere? Surely it would make more sense for them to focus on items where they get an exclusive deal or the rarity of said items makes it nearly impossible to find elsewhere?"
The genius of Massdrop is largely their unique products. There would be no point in selling bags of generic tube socks that can be had anywhere.

DarkshadeInstead of coming back with a decent reply to a truthful statement, you instead use a poop emote. How fitting. Just in case anyone else in interested, take a look at Amazon's CapEx and where their profits are actually made- there are quite a few analyses of the Amazon economic model that show that they're playing a different game than a typical business. Comparing their model to MD's is not a fair comparison. And if you think that they only make money off of prime, then you're not looking closely enough.

DarkshadeI already did. But I can see that (1) emphasis is a technique that your arguments don't seem to encompass, and (2) you aren't really reading but instead struggling to respond, so I'll help you out by making this my last response you. Have a great day!

UrVAITguyI doubt it it was from a third party before, and they undercut each other regularly. Take a look on camelcamel or one of the other historical amazon aggregation services; it's very enlightening (and a good way to get the best prices)

ChuckDeeYeah that makes the most sense that it was probably a third party. And can you post a link for those aggregation services, or is there something you click on when viewing a particular product?

That's the one I use. As I use the extension, when I look at prices on Amazon, it shows me the history of that price. They have a bookmarklet if you don't want to use the extension.
There are others, however. Lifehacker had a good article on a few of them last year:

And here are a couple others, though I haven't used them:
