Guess I don't pay enough attention to high end gear, but this is using the same DACs as the ibasso dx150, fiio x5iii, and cayin n3. How can they justify 2k for something like this? And it only works with sd cards up to 128 gb?
Given the option of buying this, or buying a dx200 and flushing 1000 down the toilet, I'm certain I'd go with the dx200 and literally flushing money down the toilet.... Ak4490 in a dap of this price is madness.

SciHobono offence.. by just seeing spec you cant really know how the sound/music would be.. is all about implementation.. X5iii has the same dac but the SQ is night and day..

SciHoboYep, it is a steep price. idk it might be the implementation.
Either way, this is a perfect budget for a nice, high end at home headphone with dac/amp components.

noobshit1234Point taken, but at this price you'd expect a much more resolving DAC than something you can get in a $150 Cayin n3.
This is like putting a v6 from a kia optima in a Ferrari. It may be a fine chip, but at even half of this price is just absurd and there are far better options out there. The ak4490 is a nice chip, but it's got a reputation for being warm, not extremely detailed and easy to engineer. It's hard not to scoff at it's inclusion in a device of this price and wonder what they're trying to pull...

SciHoboIf you are coming from price perspective I totally understand your point.. AK is trying to sell an image, luxury image.. Just like their new Flagship SP1000... Dual AKM4497 dac.. to be honest.. if you tried it.. none of the DAP in the market comes close to it (that does not include Lotoo Paw Gold Touch because I never get a chance to listen).. but price wise... too high..

noobshit1234Yeah, at least that has ak4497's though.
For 2k, 3500 MSRP you better have flagship DACs and not stuff that can be found in entry level gear like the cayin n3.
I mean the screen resolution doesn't even match $550 players.
I understand they're trying to appeal to the rich kids of Instagram demographic but to a group as OCD as audiophiles, they just end up looking like fools.... If I see you walking around with this my first thought won't be "wow, look at that wealthy person with impeccable taste!" it will be "I can't believe people are ok with buying something that is such a terrible value thinking it makes them look cool."
If you want to impress me, buy a hiby r6 or dx200 and donate the rest of the 2k to Charity....

SciHoboI sold off my X5iii after few months listening, still keeping Ak300 - much better timbre.

eetonyIf you want good timbre you should have gotten the X7ii. It's timbre is more precise and lifelike compared to the AK300.

Sebastian1989Bought x5iii way long b4 the x7ii was launch. I prefer slightly smoother presentation + hint of anolog sound, though X7ii is good in technical & energetic & fast, and more noise. Wish to enjoy straight out of box, not going thru like x5iii again.

eetonyHold your X7ii to reduce the noise or just use bal output. All of the Fiio devices are grounded to the case and not a grounding loop.
