about comments on the slippery ear pads: Brainwavz has replacing ear pads with better cushionning and overall better quality leatherette. They are a bit tuff and stiff to install on these but its feasable and they even sound better with it. Don't spit on the sound of theses, for the price asked, it's probably the most flat arc frequency you can get for your money. Which is what any studio headphones should be researching IMHO. Amps wise...welll 32ohms is not the most tuff to power theses cans so no they don't ''need'' it althought if you're on pc a sound card give always better solutions than onboard audio. It's an OVERALL slight better feel with an dac/amp combo than without. Had theses since a good 2 years, just received senns PC 37x and they trade punches with them honestly.
-sennheisers are superior in terms of ''openness'' of sound, have a detachable cable plus good mic. In term of ''whole package they deliver much more for 10$ more...and significantly lighter
-553 in opposite are in terms of sound accuracy, hard to beat. They are less bassy and the highs more neutrals. Overall better MUSIC sounding and accurate. More weight too so they do feel more premium vs sennheisers per example. I'm sure theses drivers have a lot in common with the k7xx of massdrop for what 90$ less i think?
To resume, if you're assuming your gaming profile go for senns with the pc37x (or hd558 +modmics) and if your'e a beginner wannabee audiophile the akgs are formidable as a base (might want Q701 q7xx if your'e the kind of snob audiphile ''i only listen to openbacks'' type.
In the end it depends on YOUR NEEDS, I personnaly will keep boths since i do play competively fps shooters (sennheisers) and do enjoy music at my station :) cheers

insightsurf88The Brainwavz pads are great on the k553. Only problem is you need a foam disc or else the highs will be really harsh

PlatinumAuraYa I have had my k553's for like 3 years and my pads are done for. I'm fairly sure I would like leather over the other stuff.

dark_sniperJust remember, and again I love brainwavz pads (I have Sheepskin on my k553s as well as my k240), have a foam disc. Or take the fabric off of the k553s pads and stretch it and tape it over the Driver so the highs don't pierce. With that said the pads rule. Take care when stretching them over the cans, it will tight at first. Go slow and it'll go on fine.
