Well, reading detailed reviews, comparisons and graphing the K550, K553 and Takstar Pro 80 out along with considering manufacture and everything, I'm going with the Takstars. Build quality may be slightly less, but not enough to warrant getting the K553s for me. Comfort and sound quality are of more importance. I almost pulled the trigger on the 553s here though.

skpetic1I have the Takstar HI 2050 (open version of Pro 80). I find them them to be excellent value at the $36 I snagged them at, easily worth more. I think you'll enjoy the Pro 80. Search Amazon for the Gemini HSR-1000, which are identical, rebranded Pro 80s, that are 20 bucks cheaper. Cable is coiled on those however.

MassEDUThanks for the info. Yes, I am plugging into receivers, so there is no question about what can drive what. I'll be using them for critical listening or serious listening to all kinds of genres. I also figure if I am going to get something with a non-replaceable cable, it's better to pay less. Probably come from the same manufacture anyway. By all accounts from the reviews I have read, I think I'll be satisfied with the Takstars too. I can't order stuff from Amazon anymore as their new shipping scheme does not deliver to my address, so I will have to look elsewhere to obtain the Takstars or anything else for that matter. I don't go near ebay. I'll find them, even if I may pay a bit more.
