NewtothegameAKG K553 are closed, HiFiman HE-350 are open. AKG K553 permanent cable, HiFiman HE-350 has removable cables. AKG K553 looks to be easier to drive than the HiFiman HE-350 from specs alone. Very few have heard the HiFiman HE-350 while there are a handful of reviews for the AKG K553. HiFiman HE-350 has a similar sound towards the Beyerdynamics DT-880 Pro according to a Massdrop rep, meaning slightly v shaped with emphasized highs (arguably depends on you how good or bad that is) and that it tends to be on the more neutral side of things compared to the older HE-300, according to another Youtube reviewer the HiFiman HE-350 are slightly warm. Honestly hard to tell without getting a larger group of people with listening experience. Most reviews tend to agree that the AKG K553 has a large soundstage, tends to be neutral, tight bass not emphasized but good extension. Tends to be somewhat lean due to the highs, but clear.
*Disclaimer: I haven't heard either of these headphones, nor any related headphones, i.e. AKG K550/K551 or the HE-300. These are just things I've read about each respective headphones.
To be honest you're comparing apples to oranges. If you're deciding between these two for an indoor only personal listening setup that you don't mind having the sound leak out and won't be bothered by outside noise, then get the HiFiman HE-350. If you're worried about outside noise or bothering other people get the AKG K553 (just keep in mind the ridiculous cable length and not detachable cable...tho that can be modded if you're willing)
