ZainiacI bought these last drop and I can say that they're not fantastic at blocking out surrounding sound, just about average for closed back headphones really. As for sound leaking out for others to hear I'd say again, about on par with other comparable headphones, but at least in regard to sound leaking out I can say that getting a good seal makes a big difference, I've had friends try them out at reasonably high volumes and barely heard anything until they shift them on their head at which time a fair amount of sound leaks out. My advice is don't buy them for their ability to block out sound, but if you happen to want them for their sound and the fact that they're closed back helps in addition to that they're a good choice.
Other things to note are the fact that the pads are a touch shallow and your ears will likely touch the insides, but with a replacement (non-AKG) pair of pads this isn't a problem, aside from that the comfort is pretty good. Build quality is pretty great, I've used them as my go to outdoor pair of headphones and they've stayed in very good shape given the treatment. An extremely subjective thing to note is that I find the headphones are a bit more picky with sound sources than other headphones at the same level: that is to say my phone sounds a lot more dull than with other headphones at the same price (not just talking about the sound signature, I fiddled with EQs to get similar sounds between headphones) while it performs better on a quality audio source than some comparable headphones. Not a big deal, but it might sway your opinion one way or another. One final thing is that if your head is small (like mine is) the K553s have a tendency to look ridiculous, I don't much care (like I said, these are my outdoor headphones) but I have been told I look a bit like an anime character while wearing them, so that's a thing.

VariousI pretty much agree with everything you said. I don't use these outdoors but when my wife who has a small head wears them they look large and it seems hard for her to get a good seal as some sound leaks out. Good thing they're for me 😸 I have an average sized head for a 6'2 175lb male. Takes me about 5 seconds to position once on and no seal problems. I did cut lengths of round12 gauge speaker cable split into +/- and stuff them as deep as I could into each ear pad to increase depth a bit and it works great
I actually switched out the 12 gauge with an old, cheap 1/4" guitar cable that is slightly thicker than the 12gauge and it's even better. Seems like the bass actually tightened up as well but possibly 1db lighter which IMO helps make it more neatral as I had the highs slightly eq'd up and was able to lower my 1-3db boosts down to 0-2db boosts. They actually sound better to me like this/sound amazing!

TheerealistI did something similar to your 12 gauge mod to some Sony V6 headphones. I found some .375 inch round foam weather stripping at Lowe's (I think it was made to put around window air conditioners). It did not have any tape or adhesive on it so all I had to do was measure how much I needed, snip it off and stuff it under the ear pads. It worked great plus it gives some more cushion for the pads. It comes in other sizes as well - I think they had 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch too...
