After now hundreds of hours on these (2nd drop), going through a lot of my music collection and video games, I am still extremely excited about these. I did end up adding depth to the pads using an old monster composite video cable I had laying around. I tried 5 different things. 12 gauge speaker cable, old 1/4" guitar cable, and 2 sizes of round closed cell foam. The 12 gauge was too small, the ccf too big, the 1/4" was great but then I dug into my old cable box and found that monster video cable. Perfection. While only slightly larger diameter than the 1/4" guitar cable it is a noticeable difference. It is also softer and more pliable. Adding this does change the sound slightly. These cans ootb are warm/dark/bass is more present than the treble. Adding the cable makes them more neutral and to my ears in a very good way. Bass is tighter and not as overpowering which opens up more clarity and detail in the upper mids to highs. For $120 closed cans... A++. I've spent $90-200 on the 5 headphones I had before these and these are by far my favorite.

TheerealistI know right. I knew from the start that these are actually quite neutral and are more like monitoring headphones rather than a fun set. But after a few days of playing music. I wore my Momentums (Which I find to be a Fun Headphone) and M50X, to find out that I actually prefer the K553 over the two. It might be neutral, but it doesn't lack any fun at all, unlike my DT880 lol. It may lack some Bass Presence, but to me, it's just how Bass is supposed to be, I love the mids and how well the highs extends. It's like my K701/702 but with a smaller soundstage and closed. Did I mention that sound isolation and leaks are really good. In Comparison to my Momentums, M50x, DT770 and T70, those leaked more. While I'm in my own world with the K553 most of the time.
Anyway, thanks for the pad mod, gonna try that. Only gripe I have with the thing is the depth, my ears touches the drivers lol

HaruHaruHarHarYeah it helps with comfort and sound imo. If you have spare cable similar to what I mentioned cut one end off, stuff it under the inside of the pad, all the way in, push it in all the way around the pad then cut it leaving yourself at least an extra half inch then you can trim from there to get it perfect, helps to do a quick electrical tape to put the ends together/make it a circle, repeat for other pad.
