Hi Everyone,
Please read all of this carefully.
The last 36 hours have been incredibly exciting. We launched the K7XX at 6am PT Monday morning and you’re on track to eat through the first 2000 units by midnight tonight. As stated in the product description, we expect this first batch of 2000 units to ship out by December 17th with domestic orders arriving in time for Christmas.
That said, we’ve been getting lots of questions about the remaining 4000 units. When will they drop? When will they ship? Initially, the second batch of 2000 units (these are manufactured in lots of 2000) wasn’t supposed to arrive until mid-March with the final 2000 units arriving even later. Today we spoke with AKG and, given the aggressive demand, they were able to speed up their production schedule for the community.
When will the next 2000 units be ready to ship? Mid February 2015.
When will the next 2000 units be available to purchase on Massdrop? Tonight.
Once the 2000th unit is purchased, we will not close this drop. You will still be able to join the drop, but for all purchasers beyond the 2000th, your expected ship date will be February 17th 2015. To make this as clear as possible we’re adding a note in the product description and adding a drop down at checkout where purchasers will have to specify they accept the Mid February 2015 expected ship date.
While this is great for people discovering the K7XX, there is an unfortunate catch for our international members. Because of AKG’s exclusive international distribution agreements, we will be unable to continue shipping K7XXs outside of the United States. To be clear, current international orders will not be affected, you will receive your K7XXs. Going forward, Massdrop will only be able to ship K7XXs to addresses in the United States. I’m sorry it has to be this way and hopefully it will change as we grow.
All in, this is an incredible drop. It’s shattered every record already and we can’t wait to see what happens to the next 2000 K7XXs.
This drop would have never been possible without your support.
Thank you.
- Will

Will"Going forward, Massdrop will only be able to ship K7XXs to addresses in the United States. "
When will this go into effect? After the initial 2000/4000 units or right away?

WillHow much will international shipping cost? Since you guys just changed it so that it shows Free Shipping even for us international buyers.
shokwaavHi Shokwaav,
Thanks for bringing this up! Looks like a glitch we should have fixed by later tonight.
Existing international transactions will not be effected in any way by the update.

WillWhy did you guys change this midway through the initial 2000? I was in the middle of completing my order when the change happened -_-
Would it be possible for massdrop to do a drop of just the pads and headband for those that got the q/k70x?

Will"Because of AKG’s exclusive international distribution agreements, we will be unable to continue shipping K7XXs outside of the United States."
I am so over corporate bullshit like this, these companies need to get with the times. Also, why have international shipping an option and then suddenly change it and screw people over who were looking into this product, not cool.
They are also a mass drop exclusive, its not like international distributors are even going to get these (but those rules/contracts/regulations that even stop products they wont get their hands on getting distributed suck). Super sad to be screwed out of this.

WillHey man I won't complain if it stays at free shipping :)
LachlanHi Lachlan,
Thanks for your post! I'm also sick of this kind of thing : (
We do our best to make as many products available to as many people as possible. I wish we could continue offering international shipping but it is out of our hands at this point.
International shipping was kept as an option for as long as we could to service our international members as best we could.
Thanks for understanding and sorry we can't keep shipping overseas : (

WillHey so shipping is messed up for me which is saying that I have free shipping to Canada which I know isn't true and when I try to change my address, only USA is available. It seems like other people are having this issue as well.
Also another question. Will the AKG 7XX headphones themselves say "First Edition" or is that just the 100xxxxx s/n marking on the inner wall of the headband? And obviously the first edition on the box as well.
Dark3nedHi Dark3ned,
Sorry about that, the shipping price you're seeing right now is just a display glitch we're working to resolve.
If you need to change your address feel free to email support@massdrop.com and they'll help you get sorted out.
Headphones just have the 1000xxxx s/n marking on the inner wall. First edition printing is on the box. Idea is the 1 at the beginning signifies first edition, just wanted it to be more subtle than adding more print.

WillThanks! I figured the 1000xxxx meant that it was first edition but I dunno something in me wants the actual headphones to let people know that they are indeed "First Edition," then again these aren't exactly an on the go set of cans

BloodshedRomanceAh man I should just buy two then. One to use and one to keep it in the box. And then down the line when people want a pair of first edition AKG K7XX's in Canada I'll be able to jack up the price >:D
JK I'm not quite that irresponsible with my money

Dark3nedXD, I'm going to use the crap out of these headphones... if they become "rare" down the road and people SERIOUSLLY want "first edition" ones.... I may or may not consider selling it... (probably wont) lol
BloodshedRomanceI think it would be cool if Massdrop didn't make more than 6k of these as a sign of respect and appreciation to their very passionate fanbase that gobbled these cans up as soon as they were unveiled. Since it's their first headphone, it would be a really cool collectors item.
But either way, it sounds like everyone will be very happy with this product. Great job massdrop.

Ebekenezer_Tuskayit would be cool, but First Editions usually point to "more coming" otherwise they would just be "limited edition"... but only time will tell the tale..

HoloThey'd better actually release a non-MD version of this internationally, it's hard enough to get AKG as-is in NL.

LachlanUgh. Agree so hard. Many of their international distributors are utterly useless money grabbers too, sigh.
KaneDWilliamsYup, you're good.
DatBassieHi DatBassie,
Thanks for your feedback! I'll be sure to add that disclaimer to our drop pages. It will clearly strengthen our vendor relationships and lead to long-term benefits for you and the Massdrop community.

WillGood to get a semi-serious, but still sarcastic reply.
Of course, it's a bit over-the-top language, but I really think no company should get away with this. Why don't AKG have the final say here? Why do the distributors want the deal when they would never sell this thing anyways?
Regardless, I get that it's out of your control, it's just that AKG/their distributors need to know this is not okay. Either offer it internationally all the time, or don't at all.

DatBassieManufacturers (not AKG specifically) generally have long term contractual agreements with International distributors. Those almost always provide for exclusivity in the channel "You stock my product in your warehouses and sell it to people in Country Y, in return, I won't let anyone else sell to customers in that country".
If our proposal is "rip up all of your distributor contracts so that Massdrop can sell internationally, or don't sell on Massdrop at all", I can tell you exactly what the result will be.
I'm speaking in generalities, as it applies to a lot of different vendors and categories on the site.

MarkI understand the agreements that have been made but could you explain a couple things to me?
1. In the case of the massdrop editions, the headphone (I assume) was made specifically for massdrop. Massdrop doesn't have any competitors since you guys are the only ones selling the product. 2. If there is no way around these agreements, would it be possible for massdrop to do a limited run to each countries distributor? 3. Which brings me to a point someone else made (BloodyPalace page 40) Why block countries such as Canada that don't have an official AKG distributor? As far as I know, in Canada, all of our AKG headphones are brought in by independent importers.

WillThank you for clearing this up. I was growing rather concerned that with the commotion regarding international shipping, since I am resided in Scotland, I would not be receiving the headphones that I purchased anymore, even though I had purchased from the first batch of 2,000 units.

VamiciusIt was earlier stated if you were an overseas buyer and joined the drop prior to 1800 you will still get sent your order. Effectively if you were able to join the drop as an overseas buyer you will still get the goods.

turkeyrox21. They do compete though, I believe. Apparently these cans seem to be an 'updated variant' of the K702, which sell for quite a bit more (especially the 65th ann ed, which is what we're getting) I wouldnt be suprised it they were unhappy, its just that i find it curious that other brands, like beyer havent had this problem.
2. (I guess) if MD were to drop these to local distrubutors, then the distrubutors would have to 'Mass Buy', where they would most certainly request lower prices. This would hurt MD's profits and thus would explain why they would be unwilling to do so.
3. I agree with you.

MarkWell, there is nothing you can do about it. Unfortunately the only thing I can do is to not buy anything from AKG when they act like this.
