Hi guys. I am not really an audiophile but want start enjoying higher quality sound compared to my Klipsch X10/Triple.Fi 10s.
I also have Sennheiser HD598, Sennheiser IE800 and purchased these AKGs. What would be a good desktop DAC/AMP combo at $300 or so to drive the HD598/IE800 IEMs and AKG K7XX?
1. JDS Labs / Mayflower Electronics Objective 2+ODAC 2. Schiit Magni/Modi combo 3. Aune T1 MK2 (Second Generation) 6922 24bit/192kHz Tube Amplifier Mini Hi-fi USB DAC
Thanks!

BestJinjoI vote for the Schiit Combo, If u could stretch a little bit more, get the Asgard 2.

Vince_HKThanks Vince! Would I need to match the Asgard 2 with a better DAC then, such as the Bifrost? Or I could do Asgard 2 + Modi?

BestJinjoAsgard 2 & Modi would be a great set up. You might also look at the Garage1217 Polaris, same price as the Asgard, but a bit more customizable and more powerful. I like it a lot with my Q701's. I pair it the Dragonfly.

BestJinjoI am running the Schiit Asgard 2 and it drives my Senn HD650's just fine. A co-worker has the Schiit Magni/Modi combo powering the Senn HD600 and it works great. The Aune deal on this site looks like a great one. I would consider it for the $169 I believe. That said, Schiit is the....well you know where I am going with this.

BestJinjoThe O2 is neutral and detailed. Some find it fatiguing and analytical. Aune, being a tube hybrid, is likely warmer and more musical, but some find tubes muddy and boring. They're kind of opposites in the sound signature. I have the O combo, tube DAC + tube HA (not Aune), Magni (not Modi though) and a FiiOX2. I prefer the O2 for two reasons: 1. Headphones color the sound the most and prefer not to worry about the HA playing well with the HP, 2. if I want to EQ I prefer to start with something neutral rather than trying to work around the sound sig of the HA. I do the tube combo just to switch it up - can't really DSP a tube sound in my opinion. Modi, frankly I don't have an opinion one way or the other. Probably gets the least time from me. You're already starting to build a headphone stable, so I think O combo would be the best bet in the long run.

BestJinjoI have the Asgard 2 driving my 702s and it is very good. If you settle on the Magni/Modi, email Nick at Schiit (info@schiit.com) to confirm compatibility. They are very good at suggesting what goes well with their amps.
