People with the rattle, are you going to ask for a refund? Or just go ahead and give it a second chance by getting a new pair? Mine had the rattle and I'm really torn on what I want to do. I am debating a refund and then selling my cops so that I can get the mad dogs.

FractalPieI'm gonna try for an exchange but how do we know that we don't end up with another faulty product? Read my comment just before this one (it's really long sorry). I'd like to know what you think about the Google Docs idea and if people can think of a better way to make sure.

FractalPieMy 2nd day of proper testing, Hans Zimmer's 'Why So Serious' kicked in rattle on the right side. Bit surprised since last night another dubstep song didn't have any rattle.
So I dug up my old $45 gaming headset (Plantronics Gamecom 377). No rattle through out the song. Thought of taking it a step ahead... went through all the headphone frequency/quality tests linked in this thread including the Ultimate Headphone Test at Audiocheck, it never rattled through the tests, 10Hz to 60Hz had distinct rattle for me on the K7XX, none on this el-cheapo Plantronics gaming headset.
Looking at the fact that it took almost a month to get these since shipping to Australia, am now confused as well. Return will take 10+ days lets say, plus added cost, then wait for another month to get them back, which will be another draw of luck if they rattle or not. Build quality was below what was promised to us. :|

payodpandaYou made a valid point about the exchange. I feel like the Google Docs idea is definitely a step in the right direction but everything about the faulty products seems pretty messed up to me. I guess maybe AKG could try and do something special for those who had a low serial number by providing them with brand new products. My idea was that maybe AKG could do a production run with negative numbered serial numbers for those who should have received a lower serial number, now I know this would probably be kind of weird but I am honestly just throwing out random ideas. At this point, being one of the people with a lower serial number, I would rather just receive a refund and maybe wait until the second drop to make sure that they get all the kinks worked out. All in all, I think Massdrop is doing a great job and I hope that they are working hard on a solution. It makes me somewhat upset with AKG and the fact that so many headphones made it past their quality control process. For me personally, the more important question is, will Massdrop be issuing refunds and allowing people to send in their defective product anytime soon?
EDIT: I just had another idea. The current serial numbers are for example, OOOO185, maybe for those with a lower serial number and a defective product they could just do custom ones that say XXXX185 instead. I'm not sure if any of my ideas are possible or if I'm just being ridiculous, but something does need to be done. I hope AKG has been working on this issue.

shadowarriorI understand your frustration. This whole thing is making me pretty upset with AKG. It sounds like you have it far worse than me(I live in the US).

FractalPieI think it would be simple (maybe not that easy): MD tracks all the defective units that are returned to them and provides that list of serial numbers to AKG. AKG then prints those serial numbers again on the little stickers, and sends the label sheets (that contains the stickers) to MD. AKG makes sure that the rattle issue is solved and uses part of the 2nd batch of headphones (#2001 to #4000) to replace the faulty ones from the first batch.
MD then has the responsibility to replace the stickers (e.g. #2001) with the stickers that were sent by AKG on the separate label sheets (e.g. #265) ensuring everyone gets a headphone with their original serial number. From a logistics point (and the amount of work it takes) it will not be easy to get it all right, however, using a detail-oriented person for that job will ensure it will be done right!!
I also expect the cost to return the headphones back to MD, to be refunded to me by MD (whether MD tries to claim that cost back from AKG will depend on the contract it has with AKG regarding maximum number of faulty units per shipment).
I think that AKG is a bit unlucky that the rattle issue was found and this info was shared on the MD website... causing more people to test their headphones properly. On the other hand MD still has 4,000 sets on order this year. Either way, AKG will have to fix the issue and replace the faulty units, and convince people that the next 4,000 units are good value for money (i.e. are not faulty)! It's time for AKG to have a look at 'brand damage control' now...

FractalPieReally hoping for a refund, but I thought they were only offering an exchange. I still haven't heard from anyone at AKG.

FractalPieIt's painfully obvious that these headphones were not tested or QCed according to the stated claims. The failure rate is too high and the most basic of tests would have caught the issues. That said, I'll be attempting to exchange rather than refund because I really like the comfort, look and sound (from the left driver, at least :D) of these headphones and I don't want to search more and pay more for headphones. I'll gamble that the replacements aren't faulty, though there's no real assurance that they won't have a short lifetime because of manufacturer corner-cutting.

gazzaaYou make a valid point. And I really hope that AKG takes a long look at brand damage control and comes up with something that will convince me to maybe join the second drop. But, for now I, like you, will most likely ask for a refund.

gazzaaYou forgot one thing. Some people have experienced having mislabeled Serial # on the casing and Headphones/
Ex: Box says 1000, Headphones say 656.

YakovYes, apart from the little sticker on the inside of the headphones, the label (containing the Serial #) on the box will have to reprinted by AKG as well (as some people with low Serial # would have bought it for resale).
Note: on my box the H-SNo (and not SNo) relates to the Headphone Serial #.
edit: looks like the SNo is 1445, no matter what the H-SNo is. I just found on ebay AKG K7xx #168 for sale, which has SNo 1445, same as mine. btw: it mentions that the headphones don't have the rattle!!

FractalPieI think you make good points there, and random ideas are good to get people's minds running. I do like the idea of XXXX185!
FWIW, I've also made a Google Sheets spreadsheet; do fill it in if possible. I hope this doesn't seem like spam to people I just don't want to end up with somebody else's defective unit.
