So, for those who joined the first drop, would you say this is worth it, or should I stick with my Beyerdynamic DT 990's?

DrPatrickBatemanI had bought both the DT990 Pro and K7XX, compared them carefully, and decided to return the DT990.
In terms of sound, the DT990 has a more V-shaped sound signature: the treble is more prominent, so things like fingering sounds on acoustic guitar strings became distracting and eventually fatiguing to me; there's a pronounced mid-bass hump that I found to be a bit much depending on the track (others might like it); by comparison to treble and bass, the mids seemed somewhat recessed. The K7XX isn't "dark" sounding—I like a somewhat brightish sound—but treble is less pronounced than the DT990 and less distracting/fatiguing to my ears; the bass hump is broader so bass has better extension with more low and sub-bass, and the hump extends up into the lower mids so the mids didn't sounds recessed liked the DT990. Soundstage is notably wider on the K7XX. Detail seemed similar between them. Overall, the K7XX seemed more balanced and closer to neutral than the DT990, which I preferred.
In terms of comfort, the DT990 Pro clamping was a bit strong (I understand the Premiums have more relaxed clamping), which I could have adjusted by bending the headband had I kept them; the ear cups are smaller which interfered with my glasses somewhat too. K7XX's larger ear cups don't interfere with my glasses as much, have more relaxed clamping, and have the self-adjusting headband, which I prefer, but you can't bend them to adjust clamping.
In terms of build, I have no complaints about the build of the K7XX but I knew from other AKGs that they were going to be light and mostly plastic; it's good for comfort and I haven't had durability problems with previous AKGs I've owned/used. That said, the DT990 Pros seemed sturdier in most respects. However I didn't care for the attached cable and the exposed wire between the ear cups and the headband on the Beyers.
While the K7XX was more to my liking, I don't think there's anything wrong with the DT990—it just wasn't as much to my preferences. I now suspect the DT880 would have been more to my liking than the DT990. I'd say the K7XX is worth getting if you're looking to try something a little different than the DT990 in the particular areas where the K7XX excels.

ginsbuVery helpful. I just bought these to replace my DT990 Pros (250 Ohm). Your description fits my opinion of them well.

ginsbuThank you, but I think that I will get the Beyerdynamic DT990s because I was able to borrow one of my friends pair of the DT990s 600ohm and was able to try them out on my Bravo Audio V3 tube amp and they sounded amazing to me so I'm fairly sure that I will be getting them. Also my friend is letting me use his until I can come to a final decision on whether or not I will buy a pair of my own.
