Hello, I just joined, primarily for the audiophile products. Looking at purchasing the NHT C3 speakers for our new living room. Space is about 15 feet wide by 33 long and they will fire long ways. Space is just for general listening, music room with all equipment is downstairs, so hoping they will fill it with sound nicely. Cheers.

I'm looking to the Fidelio X2 for my next attempt...T_T I want an HD650 as well, but MD hasn't dropped them before/yet. Maybe one day... I need to sell my HD600 too, but then I'll have nothing to listen with except my Westone W40's. I did nab an X2, but there was some intolerable amount of right channel bias for male vocals. It became extremely apparent while listening to friends talking in voip, so back they went. Waiting for my replacement to arrive now...
I have grown tired of buying/trying/selling/"upgrading". After the X2 and HD650 I'm calling it quits with regards to headphones at least. Thinking about selling my FiiO E18 as well and going with their X1 DAP. The micro usb port location on my Xperia Z1 is shit quite frankly. I've had it with putting up with the un-stackable nonsense. Swap my microSD card into the DAP and call it a day.
With regards to the X2, anybody considering the DT990 should go with the X2 instead imo. I've owned my DT990 for a good 11 months iirc and they kept on being my daily driver despite how harsh and sibilant they are. The comfort is there, but everything else is worse compared to the 10 hours I spent with the X2. Every artist, album, game, you name it was more enjoyable because no more SSSSSSSSSTTTHHHHHHHHSSSSSTTTHHHHHHHH. The K7XX isn't a bad alternative to the 990 either, but as I made clear in my opening statement that I didn't care for their fit.
The X2 has earpads that are somewhere between the HD### series and AKG K/Q7## series. They're wide and tall pads, but the inside is a vertical oval like Senns. Rather bizarre, but my ears fit in them with more space then Senns and Beyers. The X2 also uses memory foam + velour with their pads. The headband is the single most comfortable part of their design. AKG bumps can suck it. My HD600's bumps can suck it too. The K7XX isn't as comfortable because it's headband isn't padded.
If you take nothing away from this I'm okay with that. I would advise anyone getting into the audio craze to try and avoid discomfort in all forms including sibilance. Find out what materials, size, shape, suspension systems make you and your ears + sagittal suture (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sagittal_suture) uncomfortable. Figure out what your actual preference for their usage is. If you want to enjoy music, pick a very forgiving pair and just listen with ignorant bliss. Hearing every flaw on every track of horrible recordings and masterings only takes away from relaxing. Maybe pick a pair just for gaming like the Q701 for fps, but for the love of your skull... mod the headband. Lastly, if you have a pair that you already enjoy a specific genre for, just because someone says it's better on a different pair, ask yourself three times how much you really care if you already enjoy it with what you have now.
