thrgk"Gaming" might be a little too vague. Mad Lust Envy has a huge thread on head-fi about just that. For positional audio in fps games, AKG headphones are hard to beat with their almost unnaturally huge 3D soundstage. If you plan on playing games for over an hour, the bumps on their headbands can ruin the experience entirely. Other times I have read about say the DT990 having too much bass bloat to pick up footsteps with explosions and gunfire drowning them out despite having a 3D soundstage. If you are playing a single player or coop game like Borderlands, the bass can make it more fun if you want that Michael Bay experience. MOBA and DotA games don't really have any benefit as far as I'm concerned to whatever you're using aside from having in-game audio enabled. If you listen to music while you're playing an MMO, again, I must say it doesn't matter too much aside from whatever lets you enjoy your music.
I consider myself pretty competitive with regards to my minimizing input delay, using optical mice without flawed sensors, swapping to 144 Hz displays, lowering in-game fidelity to maximize fps, using custom crosshairs, autoexec configs, paying for intel NIC on my motherboard, buying a quality router, paying ridiculous amounts per month for 100+ Mbps DL + 25+ Mbps UL for minimal latency, etc. I bought my Q701 exclusively for use with CSGO and BF4. I would say it was definitely better than my DT990 in terms of positional accuracy, but at the end of the day I'm not playing for money and my friends suck. I grew tired of the mind numbing headaches very quickly. Those headaches lasted the remainder of the day too. If I could do it again, I wouldn't buy the Q701 just because it was "best for fps".
