From an Astro A40, what would be the most logical upgrade between these, the HD6XX/650 (god forbid they drop right after these), K612 Pro, or Fidelio X2? From what I understand is that the A40 is an alright sounding headphone but nothing spectacular. I've been told that the K7XX's are good for some, but a little "weird" on their sound signature, hence my inclusion of the apparently less weird and more balanced K612 Pro. I'd be primarily using these for gaming and as long as they don't sound worse than A40's for music (jazz, vaporwave) and movies (action, adventure, sci fi) that'd be fine too. Ampless would be nice if I can run them off my motherboard, but I am open to amp options like a monoprice dac/amp.
I dont know if I should get these or just wait until I'll be going to a big city with headphone stores (since all the major cities have some place to try headphones). All I know is that once I spend money somewhere I'd rather not have to return things to avoid shipping costs.
If these are a good pick, great! they look fantastic to me and can only wish they came sooner than August. If not, what should I consider now and perhaps the future?

HoopladoodleI have not used the A40 or the K612, but I can chime in on the other headphones:
1. Sennheiser HD6XX/650 - Rolled off treble (less "detailed" and smoother) - Much more full midrange - More impact on mid-bass slam - Less bass extension and quality - Noticeably smaller soundstage - Less overall clarity
2. Fidelio X2 - Smaller, but perhaps more accurate soundstage - Comparable treble - Midrange is slightly recessed - A lot more mid-bass impact - Less bass extension - Less overall clarity

amoeba1126Thanks for the detailed reply! If you had to pick one for immersive gaming/movies but still perform well for music when I want what would you suggest? Astro A40s are not bassy and I'm no basshead and appreciate cleanliness/tightness over loudness when it comes to bass.
