They keep bringing these back because they actually are excellent. I've seen people complaining about materials and construction. A headphone enthusiast site I like, that does extensive tests on headphones, has shown time and again that small changes in lining materials, pads, type of plastic used - stuff that I'd swear made no difference - DOES make a difference. That same site tested these headphones and compared them to several other AKG K7 models and said, holy moly, these are stunning.
I have these, the Sennheiser open backs that Massdrop did (that the site also tested and said, what the hell is going on that these sound and test so much better for so much less $$), and the Fostex ebony closed back. (not going in to other ones I have.) I can't decide which of the two open back Massdrop phones I like more. I'm not sure I can even describe the differences. I listen to everything except opera (please don't ask) and with my CIEMs, IEMs, and small portable headphones, I have clear preferences for specific headphones for certain types of music. Damned if I can come up with a "best with" music recommendation. These are excellent. The Senns are too. Both of them make headphone listening have a soundstage that's room sized, open, airy, with real imaging.
I like the comfort on these more. They look a little more weird (I have the ones with the red wires - I think red wires image better... I'M KIDDING) but I think the headband design is amazingly comfortable. For reference - I have a huge head. Size 8 hat. I also like the ear pads on these a bit more than the Senns, my ears are also large. The Senns are very comfortable, I just prefer these for how they are on the top of my head, by a tiny bit.
My wife thinks these look weird. She thinks the Senns look slick and high tech. She wouldn't wear either because she thinks they're both bigger than her head.

EdinNJWhat are you "driving" them with?

GafflodaMultiple different things, with multiple different results. I think they drive just fine from a plain old iPhone or iPad, and do that when I don't have a lot of time but want to listen. But the better the driver, the better they sound. From a laptop, much better. From an Explorer2, much much better. From an iFi Micro DSD Black, amazing. Best of all when I listened to them from my Exasound dac... but I have to sit over by the dac to do that, and that's kind of out of the way in my place. Most of the time, listening from the iFi fed by one of my laptops, but really, they're not difficult to drive.
