I own these and I plan on using them with the Dragonfly Red in DAC mode, feeding into the JDS labs Objective2 amp.
Do any of you know how well those two products match up with the AKG K7xx? The Dragonfly Red and Objective2 amp are both on their way in the mail. I'd love to hear what people think of the combo with these headphones. Thanks in advance for any input!

HamrobesIMHO, The dragonfly Red as an amp has not enough juice to run the K7-- series, but as a DAC (preamp) - well, I have not bothered to try. I would believe, from the sound signature, that the Audioengine D3 would have better synergy with AKGs, but this can come down to the matter of taste as well... Objective 2 again, should be very neutral and rather linear, which can work with AKGs, but can be comprehended by many as too linear and boring. Something tubey sounding (still neutral, just a bit less "edgy") - either solid state or tube (amp), would probably sonically complement better the AKGs. I wouldn't choose the can by the surrounding equipment, but rather vice versa, first choose the can (transducer) with the sound signature I prefer (to me it was K701 over the Senn HD600 - had both and compared over the time), and then choose carefully the surrounding equipment. Fortunately or unfortunately, K7-- series are the can that need a good amping more than most other cans. You get in return the sound which is more dynamic, cleaner, faster (better impulse response, commonly overlooked in most laymans reviews - to me one very important parameter for the sound) - simply technically and sonically more competent can than anything from the HD6-- series (or HD58X) . This probably deviates from the "common opinion", but there are more than enough opinions floating around - similar or same to mine, in regard to K7-- series, as well as the K7-- vs. the HD6-- . Nothing wrong with either can, to me, when properly amped (matched) - K7-- can really shine .
