For gaming, which cans would be best—
K7XX or Senn's 6XX?
Not really gonna be used for music or anything..
All I'm gonna say is that I love realistic explosion sounds and being able to hear my surroundings (footsteps and shit in R6 Siege)..

Josmosk7xx are often described of having huge sound stage (good for those foot steps you want) while 6xx are often described of having small sound stage.
As far as explosions go, k7xx has more bass than 6xx and can be EQ'ed to have more easily enough but still not really all that boomy. So if you really care about crazy explosions I'm not 100% confident either of these headphones is for you.
If you want both explosions and footsteps, maybe m1060? (which cost 50%+ more) I hear hit or miss things about them though - floopy heavy head comfort for one. Not sure what fits both explosions/footsteps. hard to get crazy bass in open back (open back helps for sound stage->for footsteps while closed back helps to get that rumble more easily - granted often muddier bass). Hope that helps somewhat.
Overall, I think k7xx better than 6xx in most situations... but does get it's ass kicked in other situations. If you care more about those foot steps, I hear great things about the k7xx and would recommend them for it (i haven't played those games seriously enough for a long time so I can't comment directly).

Michael-QThank you..
Would you pitch in a suggestion of your own ($200 max pref.) for what I'm looking for?
Or just stick with the K7XX?

Josmosk7xx is amazing for what it does as long as you have an okay amp or computer motherboard (as in hard to beat it for price). My previous computer/motherboard wasn't enough to drive much more than highly efficient stuff moderately.
I currently have a MSI X370 GAMING PRO AM4 motherboard which has "audio boost 2.0". It's enough to power k7xx adequately to about as loud as you'd ever want it but better amps do help quite a lot to the well trained ear-especially if you want to use EQ bass elevated/boosted signal. My EQ elevates bass by 6 dB relative to the rest of the signal, meaning most of the frequencies is reduced to 50% loudness (we hear stuff on a logarithmic scale so it's still loud'ish but regardless 6 dB is very noticeable difference to the point I can max all my volumes and still want more). Without EQ, K7xx does get up to painful listening (club or concert loudness)- but still missing some detail.
What I'm really trying to say is K7xx is really good if you have better than average gear. Even "audio boost 2.0" wasn't optimal. If all you have is standard audio motherboard and no amp, it's harder to recommend k7xx. It's still good but more efficient headphones exist.
Do you have okay gear to drive k7xx?
Given what you're looking for and my limited experience with a variety of headphones, I would recommend k7xx only if you can drive them. I can maybe suggest lower tier (less expansive) stuff but those headphones will sacrifice one thing or another - plus I may not even own a few things I'd recommend.
Just looked up the HD 558 - was like $80 new last year now its' $250. guess I won't recommend that for a lower tier >.>. Same thing with Philips SHP9500S ... used to be $50 at newegg... Maybe look into Audio Technica M40x still at the $100 price. Stock pads/comfort is bad though. Other thoughts: I don't own m40x and the sound signature is flat'ish. Thinking m40x would take EQ well though to fix the flatness. M40x wasn't my first thought though. AKG K553 PROsold on massdrop is another option- propbably better than m40x for comfort/sound but would also require a bass boost EQ to get what you want. Soundstage as a closed back will be limmited as well. It's a headphone I'm considering of trying/buying myself one day.
Audio Technica ATH-AD700X is on sale for 100 right now on amazon (50% off) which would be a good option for footsteps/soundstage. AD900x is also onsale same discout %. It's easy to drive and might still have some punchy bass in the 100Hz region but won't have a lot of bass - maybe less than k7xx. It's another head phone I don't own but probably my best recommendation if you don't have a dedicated amp considering that crazy discount. with that said, perhaps i'm not the best person to ask for recommendations as i don't own a vast amount of stuff. Just a few of the good ones.
Trying to find a pair of headphones with soundstage + strong bass actually interested me quite a bit. I found this forum: head-fi (dot) org /threads/mad-lust-envys-headphone-gaming-guide-6-20-2018-pad-swapping-section-dekoni-audio-pads-added.534479/ (not sure if links are allowed here)
seemed a lot to read through and way more info than I could provide. the "fun" of ad700 was rated as 5.75/10 so :/. quote: " They are really bass light. That is their biggest issue. Bass is so light, it sounds like a tin can attempting to sound like a subwoofer. Just no bass, lol. " But it was rated 10/10 for competitive fps gameplay.
Like I said, what you're looking for is hard to get and recommending something at the price point is even harder. If you had like $5500 plenty of stuff exist :D. Hope what I said helps. Took a while to type this and I can't think much else to say without rambling. Feel free to ask follow up question if something doesn't make sense.
