Seriously, how are these "Limited Edition"? These hese seemed to become a cash cow for MD. Not there is anything wrong with it, but it seems they initiate new drops even before the prior units have been delivered? Has there been a decision on hard production number/date cut off? If not, then my Toyota Camry is just as much of a 'Limited Edition' as these. Again, nothing wrong with bringing an awesome sounding affordable pair of headphones to the masses. Just get the marketing straight. Anyone please correct me if I am wrong.

LxJLthrMaybe something like AKG K7XX MD or K7MD. The only thing limited about these so far is that they are only sold on Massdrop

LxJLthr"Limited Edition" most frequently seems to be used as a marketing gimmick, these days. Unfortunately, there's nothing but their reputation at stake if a company prints a second run of something that was supposed to be limited. As you've seen in this thread, massdrop's reputation is safe because most of their users' mouths are firmly suctioned around the big one and ready to swallow whatever crappy deals are dropped. This seems pretty standard for the times, and hence "Limited Edition" is taken with a large grain of salt by collectors and investors.
You're right that these headphones don't appear to be Limited Edition and they're absolutely a cash cow for massdrop. They'll almost certainly never have any resale value, in my estimation. Personally, I wouldn't buy this crap in a thousand years, but hey, I'm sure I'm just an idiot and if others want to give massdrop large sums of money in exchange for some made in China headphones, so be it.

zoomorphThis is why I have trouble clicking the join now button. I would really prefer to buy an AKG product made in Austria. For $200 you get decent sounding headphones but you have to wonder how much each pair costs to manufacturer in China.

wovieI really wish I had ability to multi-quote on this forum. Here is how I see it...
No one is arguing that MD is a business and should make money. I like their concept and what them to keep refining it. I also don't see anything wrong with consumers considering product's "value" during its purchase (whatever it is to the individual). Why should headphones be different from cars, watches, etc in terms how well the product hold up in the future? Though anyone speculating on headphones value appreciating in indeed needs some guidance...
The gripe is about the potentially false labeling/advertising a product. $200 is not cheap. Many people, myself including, wait and see how a newly released products fares in impressions and reliability in relation to competitor choices before making a rational purchasing decision. It is a different story when someone comes out with a "limited" improved version (and hypes it up as such) of already well received product. In that case the purchase is driven more by impulse not to miss out on potentially awesome product...with some comfort that they could may be re-sell it at minimal loss or just hang onto it for "2nd cool" aspect (ex. my Koss ProDJ100 Tony Bennett TBSE1).
However, it is not so cool when that hyped "limited" edition turns out a regular production line with no end in sight, no return policy and indifferent second hand market...that's where the false labeling/advertising comes it. Plus is potentially undermines future "limited" releases by that company. Whether people realize or care about this is a different story.
Is this gonna be the case with these? Yes, no, may be so, I don't know. Anyway, probably said more than people will read, but it was a good way to pass a lunch hour LOL

needhelpIf people didn't buy for the "Limited Edition" tag, what point would there be to having a "Limited Edition" tag at all? Right, it encourages people to buy. Dummy. And investing your money in tangible goods isn't a bad idea. At least you'll be left with something if other investment vehicles go to shit.

zoomorphyou are right, my grandma was shopping for mechanical keyboard and she saw this limited edition headphone so she joined the drop.
no way. if you want the headphone, the LE tag is a small push. if you dont need it, the LE tag means nothing.

LxJLthrAgree. Now it's becoming more like "limited" in a sense of "only available here. not available elsewhere" and not "limited production number".
Misleading from common sense of "limited edition" nonetheless. Should have just change to "Massdrop Edition"
