Ive had both. First one was a Turtle Beach HPA2... few drivers in each side simulating surround sound. It was pretty cool. Music sounded horrible on those no matter what condiguration i tried. Later on, I tried virtual surround. Used a sound blaster recon3d sound card and attached my audio technica a900x... i was blown away at the effectiveness of it. Cool science if you didnt know already.. it mimics the time it takes for sound to travel depending on which ear it hits first, and you brain works out which direction the sound is coming from. That being said i did try it with the paired tactic3d onega headphones that came wiith the sound card and it wasnt as clear as the mastering headphones i used. There is 1 advantage to the 5.1 and 7.1s like the headset you linked .. those types of surround head phones give you hight\depth that virtual surround cant really give you. I guess it all depends on what your using them for.
Good read. Aparently your ears get depth from the little creases in the ear, and also get hight from the time it takes for the sound to hit your ear then the same sound hit your shoulders and bounce off and hit your ears. Problem with this is that not everyones ear creases and shoulders are the same so it may be inaccurate when trying to repreduce that using virtual surround. Or maybe your brain needs to warm up to such a device xD. Rhanks for the info
