Is it worth going from the AKG K553 Pro Studio Headphone to the AKG K7XX? Or should I just pick a DAC?

reubadoobpersonally I don't know yet because I too am going from the 553 to the 7XX with this drop. From what I have read, it is a huge improvement, but you will need a decent headphone amp for it.

reubadooba Dac is really very important. I found that out when I realized my DAC was making even worser cans sound better than I thought they were in the past. Get an ODAC-they're $150 dollars and the quality is only beaten barely by $3000 dollar dacs. Honestly they say the ODAC is the only dac you ever need and it's damn true. SOoooooooooooo good-I had to A B my old dac and my ODAC when I first got it and I was blown away.

kietkatThat's what I am hoping in terms of sound improvement. Especially since I'll be going from from closed to open back. I've never used an open back headphone and really looking to get my first without breaking the bank.
Right now I'm using a Bravo V3 Headphone Amplifier I picked up in a previous drop. The V3 supports output impedances between 20 and 600 Ohms. And the K7XX is Maximum input power: 200 mW and Rated impedance: 62 Ohms. So I think I should be good? What are your thoughts?

UzuzuThat's good to hear about the ODAC. I've been looking at it's stand alone and the Schiit Audio Modi2. Right now for amplification I'm using the Bravo V3 Headphone Amplifier. But seeing as the K7XX are a limited sale and the DACs I can pick up whether I'm seriously considering waiting on them and getting the K7XX before they disappear again.
