Gambia_KingkongMade in China. Only the K812 is made in Austria. The K712 is made in Slovakia, and the rest of the 700 line and the K612 are made in China.

OcticepsI want to know is it possible just ask the vendor to deliver the goods to me directly, since I am in China, now. As thus, I don't need to wait so long and you will save the freight cost. It's win-win game. :)

OcticepsI did some looking and according to AKG, both the K712 and K812 are made in Slovakia. Amazon moved that entire production from Austria to Slovakia. The rest including the K7xx are made in China. I'll still take Slovakia over China when available, any day. Then again, I take AKG with a grain of salt.

Gambia_KingkongPer the description, the stock is in Massdrop's warehouse in the United States, not in China. So it would still have to be forwarded to you.

skpetic1So same as K712, started in Austria then moved to Slovakia. And no offense but I think people who are quick to jump on the made in China hate wagon are pretty clueless. These would be $300-$400 if not made in China, think about that for a minute.

OcticepsWell, for me it's not about "hate". I totally get your point and agree. I just personally don't dig the labor practices over there, but then there isn't thing one I can do about it. I also question the quality of a lot of stuff, but then I have seen some good quality items from there as well as of late. So it isn't without appreciation. (Just look at the Takstar Pro 80s for example and the build materials and everything, try doing that in the US or Europe for $70, no way. Those would easily be $400, especially if they are mostly metal...I would think they would be closer to $600 then.

skpetic1Now you're taking it to the other extreme. $400-$600 is deep into mid/hi-fi territory. The Takstar Pro 80's are still entry-level cans, no way they'd be anywhere near that much even if made in a non-Chinese country. The DT 770 which they are a clone of are still made in Germany and ~$150 street, and look at the quality on those. So anything over $100 for the Pro 80 is a ripoff.

OcticepsYou missed my point completely. I know the Takstars are entry level, that's not the point. The K7xx is entry level mid-fi as well and all plastic. I'm not talking about price making something better (that don't happen). I'm talking about cost of materials and build. The point is that both cans are reported to sound great for what they are. That's what matters at the end of the day.

skpetic1You're solitary man on Head-Fi, aren't you? Forgive me but you're hard to understand. The K7XX aren't entry level, they're positioned directly below the TOTL dynamics (HD 800, K812, T1) and in the same tier as the DT 880/990 and HD 600/650/700. The K7XX uses the exact same materials as the rest of the AKG 700 line incl. the K712 which is almost double the price--all plastic except leather headband and metal grills. I've owned the Takstar HI 2050 (the open version of the Pro 80's), they're good for the price but sound cheap like they're supposed to, nowhere near the K7XX.

OcticepsNo, I'm not that person on Head-fi, but I am also not the most articulate person in the world either, so please pardon me. I guess if the K7xx is better than entry level mid-fi and the case you point out I'm in for a real treat and saved $200 from the K712 I was going to get. (I'll take that all day). I'm not saying the Takstars sound like the K712s or Senn HD 800s or anything a frequency graph will tell that, they aren't supposed to. I'm just saying from what I have read they sound far better than their price point might suggest. The same can be said for the K7xx. It was just an example to make a point. I wish there was a readable graph for the K7xx, I'd love to see them compared to the K712 or Senn HD800. I know the K712s graph close to the HD800s, but are a fraction of the price. I'm weary of all of this though. I'm just going to wait until the K7xx arrives.

FairingreyYes, but they are unreadable to me. For one thing they are too small for me to see. I can't find a way to make them bigger.

skpetic1K712 and K7XX sound nearly identical, I've heard both. I just returned my K712 and got these. If you can get the K7XX, then the K712 for $$$ more makes no sense, IMO. Inner Fidelity has measurements.

skpetic1You can zoom in on most viewers by holding ctrl and pressing +/- on most viewers.
If you're on Mac, there's likely a different command for this, but it shouldn't be too hard to find.

skpetic1No problem. Looking at these graphs again, I guess the K7XX's have more of that visible 3db bass boost than the K712's, but otherwise they look largely the same.
I'm not a pro at looking at frequency graphs, but if anything, the people saying that the K7XX's sound like K712's are probably right. Tyll has another graph for the original 65th anniversary editions if you're also interested in those, but for the most part they also look largely the same.
Hope all of this helps.

FairingreyYes, I see the same thing. That said though Tyll's graphs are hard to read and his measurement points are different and slightly skewed, but the general idea is there and fair enough. The graphs on Headroom are easier to read and a bit more straight forward, but they don't have the K7xx. However, measuring the K712 against the Senn HD800 you can see how close they are and the K712 shows a 3db boost over the HD800, but both are balanced phones. So the K7xxs may be a bit warmer sounding, but maybe not depending on how the mid and high peaks balance out. I'd venture to guess the K7xx would measure nearly the same against the HD800 as the K712 does. This seems to back up the similarity between the K712 and K7xx. I'm really starting to think I just saved a bunch of money and still got the sound I am after. (I'll know better when I hear them of course and after they settle in). This is a big positive for me because I rarely use headphones and to spend $400 on cans for those use habits may well be a fool's errand.

OcticepsNot sure who said it's in the same tier of HD 600/650/700, but I don't think so.

CRMassdropI did, because I've heard the HD 650 and 700 and the K7XX gives them a run for their money. These are closest in sound signature to the HD 650.
