Received K7XX today. Listening to it for 3 hours and very disappointed. It is just an SO SO open headphones comparing to my Philips X2, Audeze LCD2 and Beyerdynamic T1. Put K7xx head to head to $200 X2 (Gibson version), unfortunately K7XX sounds thin and flat. Recessed low and high. Less dynamics, Less resonance and lacking details. The cheap built quality on K7xx is far behind X2. For $200, I don't expect K7XX is as good as my favor LCD2 or T1, but I do expect k7xx's sound quality should be in the same league as X2. Too bad, Massdrop doesn't accept return. I can only hope mysterious "BURN-IN" will fix it. Now I am really worried about my other two massdrop brand products TH-X00 and m9XX.

patrckJust curious, what you are using to drive these? I have tried these with a few genres of music and the bass sounds nice and full without being boomy. It has a good clean punch to it and I really enjoy listening to things like 320kbps Deadmau5 or flac rips of the new Cold Play. Both sound clear and well balanced.

patrckLet it break in, I was disappointed at first, too. Agree you should also try other amps, one review I read said the K7xx needs adequate current from the amp or it will sound thin. Sounding pretty good now from my NAD phone jack after 8 hours or so.

Socratease+ I-SlimJim and Socratease, thanks for the inputs. I tried AK AR , Darkvoice 336 and Denon 2308Ci with 24bits/192khz music. Both Darkvoice and Denon are capable to drive my 600 ohm T1 and AJ JR always drive my favor 70 ohm LCD2 very well, so they should have no problem to drive 62 ohm K7xx. At this moment, after one day burn in, K7xx still sounds flat and lacking dynamics and details comparing to X2. Especially K7xx has much less of resonance and decay of string vibration on violin and piano. I will give it couple more days to break in and hope it will improves. My m9xx DAC/AMP will arrive tomorrow and hope it will match K7xx well.

SocrateaseAfter one week burn-in, K7xx does improve dynamic and gives more details. I am not sure the amount of improvement but at least now I am not as disappointed as one week ago. Actually I do enjoy listening to K7xx because it does provide different enjoyable sound experience to LCD-2, T1 and X2. But overall I still think X2 is a better $200 headphone.
Comparing to X2. For built quality, no doubt , metal X2 is better than plastic K7xx. Though I feel K7xx is lighter and a little more comfortable. For driving efficiency, X2 is the winner. K7xx needs strong amp. None of my portable devices can drive K7xx well including AK JR, Beyerdynamic A200p and Fiio X3. All of my portable devices makes K7xx sound even thinner while X2 can sounds good on my iPhone and Note 3. Sound wise, for my taste , X2 is an excited headphone which offers better bass definition, solid vocal image and more details with dynamics than K7xx. K7xx does have it’s own character. Thinner sound, wider stage and very smooth easy listening. K7xx has clear clean separation of all instruments but has a little less details and dynamic even driven by my m9xx, darkvoice 336 and Denon 2308i.
So I would say X2 is a better $200 headphones because even with portable devices, X2 can provide musical and exited sound with more details than K7xx.But if you already have good amps and have extra money for experiencing different sound character, K7xx does provide wider soundstage and smoother listening sound than X2.

patrckI agree the X2 feels more premium and is more exciting. K7XX though is good for orchestral/acoustic music or when you want a wide stage.
