Scenario: you have $200 to blow on a pair of quality cans. You listen to a variety of music on both your desktop and iPod / phone.
AKG K7XX vs. ATH-M50X vs. Sennheiser HD598.
There can only be one victor. Go.

XaviiI would go with the Sennheiser, but I am biased.  I love the balance of the Sennheiser with no particular range being overpowering.  Also, the comfort level is outstanding.  I have a pair of Ivory 598s and I am absolutely in love with them.

Xaviiwell, these need an external amp, so if you have none and your budget is $200, go for the HD 598. Comparing the sound signature of the K7XX to the HD 598, the former is a slight V-shape, while the latter is a slight inverted V-shape.

EinTheVariancesennheisers sound infinitely more natural and overall more pleasant. k712s were my first "high end" headphone, before I guess the shoddy m50x's. Listening to those k712s now... they aren't bad but lack something that makes music sound alive.

XaviiIf you have an amp, the K7XX is infinitely better than the other two. The K7XX is more comparable to the HD 600/650. But if you don't have an amp, get the HD 598. The M50X shouldn't even be discussed, they're terrible for the price.
The SMSL SD-793II DAC/Amp combo from massdrop is a good value and can power the K7XX really well.

Uzuzuthat's because they don't have that mid focused bump like the Sennheisers do. The K7 series sounds more analytical. Of course, sound signatures are up to individual preferences.

XaviiThe M50s are not very good in my opinion. It has a very "stiff" sound in a way,

XaviiForget M50x. K7xx beats HD598.

XaviiThe K7XX are far superior with an amp/dac setup. But the 598s are pretty fuss free. I can't recommend the M50x anymore.

XaviiDo you know how they compare to Fostex TH-X00? I got the Purpleheart ones from Massdrop. Absolutely amazing headphones imo.

Jimbobler1No clue on how they compare to the TH-X00. Those are a closed back set though so I don't think a comparison would really work. Innately different sound characteristics between open and closed cans.
