Can anyone give me a little comparison between one of these and the DT 880? I've got the DT880 powered off a JDS O2+ODAC. The DT 880 is probably one of the most comfortable headphones I've ever used.

RambonoboHad these for a while now, and at 149, these are a great deal. I'll echo what many others said - that these headphones perform their best when paired with a decent amp. Rather picky on songs, but for certain types of music (especially those emphasizing vocals and strings), it is pure magic compared to the DT880 I have, on the same gear.
My impressions were that unamped (or at far as using an Asus Essence STX's integrated amp was concerned), the q701 (already bass ported modded) sounded somewhat reccessed (probably due to the larger soundstage), and more importantly, the treble was so harsh on some tracks that for a few months, I stuck predominantly to using my DT880s for everything. It had a more well-rounded sound signature that was suited for various genres of music, as well as movies and games.
I was disappointed until I got myself a new amp, a Littledot MK III, and I can safely say that the positions are reversed; I hardly used the DT880 in the last month. I don't have much experience with amps (other than a short while with a Bravo Ocean, wasn't impressed, and the one in my STX).
My impression after that was that the trebles really mellowed out with the tubes, and the mids featured more prominently, and the bass presence is definitely not lacking. With the same amp (tested on various gain settings as well), the DT880 while still pleasant sounding, sounds a lot flatter compared to the amped q701; I'm guessing where this was where the q701's soundstage really shines. I'd hardly touched my DT880s since then, although the dt880s are definitely more accepting of different types of songs, it just lacks something that the q701 can do with some genres.
Overall, I think the q701 would do well with the o2/ODAC combo. My experience is that the q701 scales better than the dt880 with a good amp, and the O2/ODAC definitely qualifies. But the DT880 aren't shabby either; but I just end up going back to the q701 about 90% of the time.
Also tried the q701 briefly on the C5D - it sounded great too.
Oh, and comfort wise, the DT880s are way superior.
