Since there won't be any more Black model, and I had borrowed one pair of Q701 from my friend before, I guess I will have to pass from this deal. I will keep using my Audio-Technica ATH-A900X closed back pair for music, gaming and movies. Sure, the Q701 has a bigger and wider sound stage, but A900X also has huge sound stage for a closed can, and a better bass presentation, simply more dynamic to my taste, and easier to drive with my Audioengine D1. Have fun with your AKGs 1000+ customers! Looking forward to hear from y'all and can't wait to see some new design Q701s shortly!

NeoChenGaoI didn't consider the a900x to have any bass at all...

GL1TCH3DI would say controlled bass, not no bass. Definitely not basshead oriented, but they probably have the best soundstage and balance out of any closed-back headphones. That being said, I look forward to comparing the Q701 with the A900X when I get my hands on this drop!

McLonaldTotally Agreed! Have not tried those wood cans by Audio Technica, for what I can afford, A900X truly surprised me with the soundstage!!! For basshead preference, I will go with my V-MODA M100 and SONY MDR-X10. I got the MDR-X10 for about 50 bucks at Staples deal! That was a steal! But it gets uncomfortable after a while! Q701 will present the tight bass, but not boomy, and many audiophiles will appreciate that!

GL1TCH3DSorry to hear that dude, A900x was balanced with a decent bass to me... maybe I am more sensitive to that frequency. After all, it is my daily use for everything and I actually just got another pair to give to my buddy as B-DAY gift.

McLonaldWhen I heard it I felt it was a lot weaker than the AKGQ701. I'm not basshead by any respect and as such the Q701 was fine for me as well as the HD800 but the Audio technica a900x and shure srh940 felt as if they had nothing there. I don't doubt the soundstaging ability though. I myself have the Fostex TH900 and it really does sound incredibly spacious and will be receiving the Audio Technica W3000anv soon for which to compare with

McLonaldI'm in the same boat, this drop just exploded, was on the fence but totally pulling the trigger. Will be comparing it to the A900x, though I mostly recall how the sound was (had K701). Agreed that the A900x are definitely not bass head either but very balanced for closed back, and very easy to drive unamped.
I think a perfect complement to the Q701, would the Audio Technica M50 closed-back when it's on sale. That one has more aggressive sound along with punchy bass (would be great if MD could get the M50x, if anything else, for the replaceable cable !)

PsychetronAlso, got the courage to pull the trigger. Currently own a pair of A900x as well, and wanted a pair of open headphones. I think they will be a nice change from the A900xs, and each can be used for different purposes.
