Definitely jealous with this drop. I unfortunately wanted a pair of Fostex TH-900's more than these, so I bit on those instead. These AKG's will definitely be my next pair of headphones, for sure.

fuzzybaffyThese don't hold a candle to the TH900. The TH900 takes literal dumps on the sound of these cans.

Uzuzunot true, i compared the two just last night... different amps or dac/amp combo can make the K812 sound superior. (and vice versa) but K812 literally gave me chills because it sounded so real and emotional with vocals and instruments. I could really feel the music. When a headphone can do that, its something special.

tranceFanDoes trance/EDM shine with the K812? I truly hope so - I want to get lost in it!

tranceFanAlso, what level of amplification is recommended? I only have my soundcard right now to listen through (Asus Essence STX) which has options for 1V/0-64 ohms, 2-3V/64-300ohms, and 7V/300-600 ohms. When I get the LG V10, I'm hoping it'll also be good for this headphone with its 32-bit ESS Sabre 9018C2M DAC and 9602C amp - very interesting for a smartphone.

UzuzuHah, to each their own. The TH900 has a V-shaped sound signature; bright as hell and mids recessed as hell, with no sense of depth or dimensionality at all (my A900X had a deeper sound stage). It's the worst headphone I've ever heard by far, and that was on a neutral TOTL DAC and amp.
The K812 on the other hand is meant to sound neutral and true enough for monitoring, opposed to the "fun" sounding TH900. The K812 is meant to compete with the likes of the Beyerdynamic T1 and Sennheiser HD 800. Hence why you feel so strongly about the TH900 vs the K812—polar opposite headphones.
