Like many others, I got my chair yesterday and was able to assemble it in just shy of an hour, but most of that time was goofing off with my friend, who owns the Pro-X. Some advice to other Massdropper's:
1) BE SURE TO WEAR GLOVES. The provided gloves are a stretchable, cloth-like material and way too small for my hands (I have very large hands). I have some XL Nitrile gloves I work while assembling and working on the Hydraulic press, as there is some shipping grease on the components (to be expected). If you can, wear gloves for the base assembly, and take them off when working on the chair. That way, no grease gets on the chair.
2) I love the smell of the packaging. It's been just overnight since I assembled it, but the smell has already disasspated, so don't be alarmed when you first open the package.
3) Assembly is about as straightforward as can be, most chairs have pretty much the same design. Take your time, don't over-torque the screws on the plastic covers and you'll be golden. I was fortunate to NOT have any plastic covers ship broken, as that's the first thing I checked.
4) The only gripe I have is that the manual (at least mine) is completely missing mention of when to use the screws in package C, but it's not hard to figure out that C comes between B and D ;)
5) I have a lot of lower back pain, so the lumbar cushion is a godsend for me honestly. It seems "unnatural" because so many of us are used to slouching. If anything, view it as a cushion that forces you to keep good posture, even when you naturally begin to slouch over time.
6) I have the head cushion attached to my chair, but I find myself naturally leaning forward as I work, so I don't know if I'll end up using it on the chair or not. I can use it as a joke to friends that it's the VR headset that comes with my chair, and see how many I can fool ;)
7) Unless I missed it, there's no mention in the instructions on how to use the clip (my friend described it as a bra-hook, lol) that helps to keep the straps on the back taut. I did see a mention on the Manufacturer's website to use it to secure the headrest, but I ended up using it on the lumbar support straps to tie them together to make an X-shape. Adds a bit to the racing theme, I think.
For anyone who may be wondering the differences between the PRO-X and this version, I'm lucky to have a friend who owns the PRO-X (same guy who helped me assemble) and he provided his feedback as follows:
- Armrests are the same degree of adjustability (up/down, forward/back, in/out), though this chair has slightly softer armrests that are molded in a different shape. - His chair doesn't have the AKRacing logo on the back seat rest (near the lumbar area), but that's just aesthetics. - His chair is wider, both in the seat and the back, and the cushion extends further up, closer to the bend of the knees. Honestly, I'm not the tallest (5'11", 170lbs), but I would prefer this longer cushion, even as an add-on for the Premium chair. I can already tell where on my current chair I'll feel pressure on my legs, but maybe I just need to re-adjust a bit. The end of the cushion on his chair as a very large AK-Racing logo, as well, which again is just aesthetics. - He likes the casters/base on the Premium better, but he's also on carpet without a chair mat underneath so it's more likely that his issues are caused by that, rather than an issue with the chair. I've noticed the casters and base are a very nice, dull-polished steel and are a great contrast to the black chair. They roll very, very smoothly and seem well-built. - And, as expected, he's jealous of the carbon-fiber look of my chair ;) - Essentially, we understand that the Pro-X is basically a BIG&TALL version of the Premium, but the differences are very minor, relatively. It isn't make-or-break, and it isn't world-shattering; just a matter of preference.

Overall, I'm extremely pleased with this chair for the price we were able to secure with this drop, and am already recommending it to friends. Hopefully you guys will do another drop soon, @AKRacingAmerica . If you're taking any product recommendations, I'd love to see an add-on option for an extended base cushion for the Premium, similar to what the Pro-X has. If I had that, this chair would be perfection!!!

ForralAh ha, bra hook. makes more sense. I tried googling Octagonal plastic and didn't really get anywhere. I figured it was something like your photo but after 10minutes of farting around i figured i'd check out today (just got my yesterday). Thanks for the photo, makes the intended use obvious. and Yes, the manuals are quite lacking - although being an obvious install helped though.

cman0Glad that helped! I love in-depth reviews when I'm shopping so I do my best to provide those to others after I have my initial impressions. I do wish the chair was a bit wider, but it's not a deal-breaker!

ForralThanks for the positive review. The clip for the head pillow is a relatively new inclusion in the product. So the manual has not yet been updated to include how to use it. We know that's confusing for some users (including me the first time I saw it :-) ) but we thought it was better to include it now and wait for the update to follow.
