Headquartered in Oregon since 1979, Al Mar Knives takes inspiration from its late founder, blackbelt Al Mar, and has since gained a reputation for quality cutlery and innovative designs. Though typically known for their gentleman’s folders, Al Mar takes a literal stab in the world of kitchen cutlery with the Chef Series. They feature blades made from a core of VG-2 steel that’s laminated between two layers of 400 series stainless steel. The resulting combination of steels is much stronger than single-layer blades. As for the handles, they’re constructed with smooth black pakkawood, which offers a nice aesthetic complement to the blades and a sure grip in a hot kitchen.
