Sadly mostly the reviews are on infowars and crazy conspiracy websites. Not saying this doesn't do what it says, but "lab tested", well, only info I find in their website is links to scare people about municipal water. Probably does what it says. But let's see multiple independent lab reviews. Probably good if you have actual problem water (get it tested!) or for emergencies or off-grid or what not.
What would be nice is to have an option to add additional spare filters.
Anyone know if the stainless grade is 202 or 304?
I’m concerned what option is best to add can any of you provide any feedback on that? Thank you in advance.
Does anyone know if this system adds back minerals? I am asking this because pure water is very bad for your health because water tends to "attract" minerals (from your body).
satseh
It does not remove minerals there is no membrane, it is a gack style filtration system
satseh
this doesn't remove minerals. only filters like zerowater do.
We love ours. I’ve had it for about six months and it’s the best investment we’ve mad
Is the 5 gallon water container food grade plastic?
My wife and I have been using this system for about a year now. No complaints. Works fine for our needs.
My Alexapure filter stopped flowing. I think I've used about 1,500 gallons of water so far, but the company says the filters are good for 5,000 gallons. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get it flowing again?

Try scrubbing the filter surface w/ a clean plastic mesh scrubby & H2O - no soap; they tend to build up a surface coating after use in high mineral water. Ck inside surface of cans as well for light scale & remove AR.
As seen on infowars.com! Whats next super male vitality? Tangy tangerine?

Ha! Wow, I was ready to pull the trigger on this. That just made me change my mind. I refuse to buy anything that fucking psycho endorses. Thanks.
Time to clarify some misleading, probably intentionally so, posts.
1. Alexapure vs Berkey. No it's not a Berkey. Also a Berkey is not an Alexapure. Is the Alexapure a "knockoff" of the Berkey? Certainly. Obviously it's not enough of a knockoff to violate any patent laws and that's likely because gravity fed filters are not patentable but the filters probably are. So what should your takeaway be? Not the "OMG IT'S NOT A BERKEY" rants certain people want you to see and believe mean "it sucks!". Rather be smart and do your own research. If for you it's a matter of principle then go for the Berkey. If you want to judge based on value for your money and performance then in almost every regard the Alexapure is a better filter. See my post/response to one ranter below. There's also reviews on the web including a very good one by "ArkansasJake" on his website.
2. OMG it has to stay hydrated!!!! Well this is true, to some extent. The filters need to be hydrated. If you are using the filter long term (ie it's on your counter) then it will ALWAYS be hydrated as it doesn't completely drain the top reservoir. So if you are using it there will always be water up top. You can check periodically if you are concerned.
If you are planning to store the unit there are things you can do. You can store the filter in a ziplock bag with some water for medium term storage (a few weeks). For longer term storage you can air dry the filter(s) completely and then when ready to reuse you rehydrate the filter in a solution of alcohol and water. Please check the Alexapure site for full information.
I've had mine now for several weeks and it rocks. I use it with one filter now and it flows fine. If you use a LOT of water then a couple of filters will increase filter water flow but for most situations I doubt you'll need it. If you want to be able to filter more water without maintenance (ie replacing/cleaning filters) then you can add a second filter up to four filters.
Hope this helps. Do your own research and think for yourself. Don't let the hype/rant train think for you. :)

Bought one last time it was offered. It's worked flawlessly for us. Huge difference in our water quality and taste. Likely will grab another filter this time around.
Just some FYI. I have a Berkey, but haven't used it in years, and I have the problem with the filters separating from the base. I was looking at fixing them so I can use it in my camp trailer, but I bought a pur water pitcher instead. Very happy with it, and you can buy them and the replacement filters for far less than this system at any Walmart.
NOT a Berkey. Not even close. Buyers....BEWARE! Read online reviews.

I think everyone can see this is not a Berkey, since you've told us half a dozen times and it also says "Alexapure" and not "Berkey."

https://imgur.com/a/Dg8Ry Fed my frog organic supplements from InfoWars and water from this filter. After a few weeks, little [moderated] is still a little [moderated].
You Sir have obviously never seen a crooked frog!
In a pinch, can i drink urine?
This IS NOT a Berkey.....just a knockoff!
rayce444
Is it a knockoff or a n improvement. That Berkey filter separation problem was real and if your price gets too high, you leave room for an innovator to come in and scoop the marked under you.
Does any of this money go to Alex Jones?
I have an Alexapure filtration system. It comes with one filter, but it can handle up to four. I got two and it seems okay I guess. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to know if it's doing it's thing, but I got a dissolved solids tester and there was no difference between the tap water vs. the filtered water. It has 72 ppm dissolved solids from the tap, coming out it had 70 ppm dissolved solids. I'm not sure if this is how it's supposed to work.
wolfmanmos
These filters are not designed to remove minerals nor should they. Minerals are not contaminants. They remove chemicals and "contaminants" like bacteria and such. You want dissolved minerals in your water for health (zero TDS is bad). Also 70ppm is a good level.
If for some reason you must have zero TDS then you need a completely different type of filter and it would not be for drinking water.
So I got this off a nut's website. Not very pleased. You have to keep the filter hydrated so you can't stop using it............
This is a ripoff of the Berkey system. I've owned the Berkey system for years now and it is excellent.
I own this filtration system and more than 1 fliter can be used. It's the purest water I've drank and I am now a water snob
Just out of curiosity, how is this an EDC item? I'd be damned if someone carried this with them everyday.

Pavorish
I think because it includes the option for the portable filtering water bottle.
Pavorish
Damn, you beat me to it....lol
BEWARE in regard to the filter they provide.....check out what Amazon buyers have to say about filter separation at the base, where the filtering media meets the very bottom of the filter. This is NOT a Berkey.
rayce444
I have seen videos where the Berkey had separation problems
I'm very interested in this filter but need to understand the impact on water hardness after filtering. I am looking to reduce water hardness but not to zero. Can anyone comment on how much this will reduce mineral content of water to reduce hardness and by how much? My current city water is about 225tds and my goal is 50tds. Currently I'm using a Zerowater filter which reduces tds to 0 but I have to mix city water back in to bring it to 50 (which introduces contaminants again.)
This is a rip off of the Berkey filter through and through . But this system only uses 1 filter instead of 2, and unlike the Berkey it doesn't come with the chloride and arsenic filter.(wonder if you could use Berkey chloride filter on this) Most people have issues because the filter have a set of instructions to follow before you can use it, which basically cleans the sediments and particulates out of the filter. If you don't it leaves a white film and substrate in the water. But overall this filter makes it possible to have fiji water at your counter top. I never drank this much water till I got this filter, and Savannah GA it's necessary. The awesome feature with the charcoal filter is that it removes 99.9999 contaminants but it leaves all the mineral's unlike osmosis and zen filters, that directly strip the water of natural minerals. Water that is demineralized can actually harm the body because the water is goin to pull the minrals from the body based off concentration gradient, that can lead to health issues.
I've had this system since the last drop and I can say that it is terrific so far. no problems and wonderful tasting water. I live in L.A. and (at least where I am) youcan smell and taste the chemicals in the tap. After using this filter, very clean and pure tasting.

Honey, thanks for demonstrating my very first sentence. Lol.
This is incorrect. It's not illegal to sell a filter in California that works on bacteria; it's just cost-prohibitive and time-consuming. Manufacturers may not want to jump through the hoops and spend the money to comply with the law, which requires specific 3rd party test certification and registration fees: https://theberkey.com/pages/why-some-berkey-products-are-not-available-in-california

I've been waiting years to get a price like this for these filters. Lowest I've seen yet. I've had them before, but then permanently borrowed; ok stolen. I use the same no rinse sanitizer on this occasionally, without the filters in place. The filters can be cleaned. Note on cleaning and touching the filters. Don't handle directly with your hands. The oil from your hands can clog it. Use gloves.
