For anyone buying an alienware laptop. Always get the extended warrenty and renew it after a year. I didnt and now i have a $1000 paperweight. Alienware is notorious for making laptops that last 1 or two years max. Although the ventilation does look superior to older versions.

MonkipVery true! When I bought an Alienware 15r2 almost 2 years ago, the motherboard died after only a week of light gaming, OS won't load and every time the machine gets rebooted, I got BSOD instead. Dell diagnostic tool shows a motherboard error code that needs replacement. Fortunately they replaced my unit brand new. After a year the battery died, and Dell has no replacement (out of stock) because they stopped making it. You'll probably end up with a third-party vendor because Dell has stopped production of replacement parts, and worst you're unit will get stuck in their tech support indefinitely.

d3rrlckI wouldn't agree, I had a first wave dell alienware m14 from 2013 last me to this day with the only problem being the battery. I literally took it everywhere with me (bicycle bag, backpack, car ride, etc)and it has held up completely fine. However this is a different laptop and so was your's @Monkip .

iNcUbUsiMrAnI think it was the old 14" one. I customized on their website to have a high end cpu and gpu at the time. After about a year or so things really started slowing down. My guess was dues to poor ventalation it just overheated the components. Also the hinge broke so I cant close it anymore. I had a couple of other friends with alienware laptops who had similar overheating issues. And another friend who tried replacing his cpu which turned out to be impossible for whatever reason.

wetrestroomsThats why i feel as if they fixed the vents with this generation. Mine had what looked like 2 small vents on the back and bottom but was actually only vented on one side. They just had fake vents to mirror the design.

MonkipI have the m14r2, its got it early 2013, but its still going strong till this day, with upgraded storage drives and ram. its still my primary machine. and yes its prone to get quiet hot while gaming but I usually keep the vents end a bit higher for easy airflow. @wetrestrooms i also have a deteriorated battery, but it did last me reasonably for 4 years, now it hardly makes the 30 mins mark.

iNcUbUsiMrAnDo you buy battery from a third-party? Most of the available battery I found is either repacked and refurbished, and wondering if they are worth getting?

d3rrlcknot yet, i am still contemplating if its worth to replace the battery or not. those third party sellers are usually charging a hefty price for them.

MonkipAlienware are much different now. Sounds like a typical experience if you are asking me for older models.
