Excellent!
The two leg design often starts conversations and people want to try it out. Even the most skeptical linger quite awhile sitting in it remarking how surprised they are at the comfort...it weighs and packs down, to nothing. Great backpacking chair!

Really cool, really light, really fun to try to get in :)
This is a light, packable chair that is fun to have around a campsite, easy to store in the corner of your classroom or alternative office, and it's hilarious to watch someone get into for the first time! The company is well-known, so the product is well-made. It's held up over time getting nearly daily abuse in my office/classroom and still looks fresh.

Awesome ultralights
IMO, most foldable chairs are uncomfortable - most of them force you into a slouched position which hurts my lower back if I sit in them too long. Forget falling asleep in them comfortably, and good luck on uneven ground. The Alite Monarch kills it in all of these respects. You can lean back as far as you like with your legs straight, or sit up with your knees bent. Uneven ground is no problem. They fold down small enough to fit easily in kayaks or strapped to a backpack. A friend of mine bought one of these 5 or 6 years ago and now a bunch of us have them. They're pretty durable, though I did manage to break one after a couple years of frequent, hard use - I plopped down into it real hard late one night camping after a few brews and the pole sheered at the 4-way piece. It's fixable if I can find an equivalently sized tube, otherwise, I'll just buy another - I like them enough and their price isn't outrageous. The only possible downside I see is that they can be a tad difficult to get out of - older folks or those with bad hips/knees/etc. may struggle to get in and out. Anyway, try one out at your local outdoor store (REI sells em) - they're not for everyone, so definitely find one to test before buying.

I do not like. It IS maybe the best lightest chair but for .7 pounds more one gets a far superior chair that is much, much easier to get into and gets one off the ground better allowing one to cook in it and sit up straighter as well as lean back comfortably. In a word, I don't like the design though I do like the light weight.

jsradfordWhich chair would you recommend? I'm starting to get into more backpack camping and I'm trying to find a quality chair that is light. I'm still new to it, so I'm no "ultralighter," but it makes sense to me to try to get good lightweight gear initially than wish I had down the road. Thanks in advance!

A great light(er) option for backpacking and a nice travel size if you think you might want a chair. It's very comfortable and I'm able to relax by leaning back or I can sit in it like a stool by sitting up and sliding my butt more toward the back of the chair. Awesome product! If you have a hard time getting up from low places, don't buy it.

This chair is just ok. It does the job of acting as a chair but honestly isn't very comfortable. I thought it would be such a great chair but it is just ok. The idea of a two legged chair is honestly just bad I mean you have to balance the stupid things all the time or else you will fall and sometimes you may want to sit something in the chair oh wait you can't because the item would most likely fall out of the chair since it is two legged. The weight is also an important factor although it is only 1.3Lbs I'd gladly lug around a 2Lb four legged chair from Amazon for a total of $30. Also after sitting in this chair for a while you may experience some pain like I do the pain is a side effect of a bad chair I guess. One more thing the chair seems flimsy and not very strong and although I weigh about 150Lbs I still feel like I will break this chair also it is not for tall people as I am 6'2" and uncomfortable in the chair. This chair again does the job but not to my satisfaction.

LukeRoesenerYour experience is very different from mine - I get a sore lower back from 4-legged camping chairs, never from my Monarchs. I'm 6'2" 185lbs and I find it very comfortable. I'm honestly not sure how your height would affect your comfort in the chair unless you were significantly taller than me. I could see how you might think they feel flimsy but they really aren't - a couple of my friends have had theirs for 3+ years of hard use. One of those guys (same size as me) literally takes his everywhere with him, and another friend with one is same height but probably 200 or 210lbs. I've broken one but it got a lot of use and I sat down in it really hard after several drinks... I've also broken regular 4-legged camping chairs so maybe I'm just rough on chairs. Anyway, I guess they're not for everyone!

The price is reasonable and the weight is good but like others have said the two feet approach just doesn't work that well. Maybe the feet were more stable but the way this is setup as it is requires constant balancing to keep it from falling over during use. Spend the extra money and get a 4 foot ultralight chair instead.

I am happy with my purchase! After a long day on trail, it is nice to have something a backrest where your butt does not go numb. It’s easy enough to assemble, weight is good. Definitely use it on a flat spot. You can use it anywhere but getting in/ out of and keeping both legs down is more easily accomplished if it’s flat. Quality of materials seems good, time will tell if the construction holds up. I definitely have no regrets

Poor design, the two legged approach is not very practical.
