I clicked through to this guy's photo set, and the sewing looks pretty amateur. Check out the bottom edge of the thing here, and the curves right and left;

There"s something to be said for just having it made in China.

CloacaIt could just be the way that I have it laid, but in person, I don't have a problem with the stitching.

CloacaI looked at the same things... and what I saw is very much like what I've seen on most heavy duty leather bags, satchels, cases, etc I own, a few of which were custom made in pretty high end artisan workshops. Time and wear cause the leather to adapt in form to the foibles of what you stuff inside (a laptop but also that power adapter that you REALLY should not have slipped into that flat space, but hurrying... etc.). That makes seam straightness look different because of stretching and bending, makes what was a straight edge into one with some organic curves and ripples. Getting caught in a monsoon or two will also cause some changes in the perfect flat and aligned shape that it was when brand new and unused. I see it also on the absurdly heavyweight canvas bags I use. (As a travel photographer, I have a lot of bags that take a lot of abuse...) Leather adapts to how you treat it... otherwise it wouldn't be leather, it would be steel.

EdinNJI wish I could like this comment 23942309482 times. What we offer will never be machine like precision, but there is a longevity and a magic to items made by hand by a human who loves their job. It's really hard to capture that over the internet and in photos, but when it lives in your life day by day it becomes crystal clear. And unfortunately it's something that many of us have never seen because for the last 50 years we've fundamentally changed how things are made in a way that removes much of the humanity of a product. Our definition of quality has changed in ways that aren't always good. But those who have seen it, recognize it. And we're doing what we do (instead of having our stuff made overseas for a fraction of the price) because we really want more people to see it. Thanks for seeing it. And let me know if you backed this drop, I'd like to include a little something extra for you.

AllegoryGoodsThanks for the offer. I'm still on the fence about the drop only because I'm a photographer, and I don't step outside my door without cameras. (Some of the custom bags I mentioned were bags made to designs from me and a few photographer friends. Professional photographers have very different opinions about bags than occasional photographers... A few are from Glaser Designs, who you probably know of.) My brain is whispering: Two bags? Really? Odds are good I'm going to get in, because it looks like a nice carry setup when I'm flying to a travel shoot gig, and my gear's in a roll aboard and I'm just carrying my edit laptop and reading and passport. But like most photographers, I am awash in bags of all kinds because there's no perfect bag, and my wife has a thousand digs on me about my closet full of bags. I'll let you know if I hop off the fence.
Really lovely piece of work. If I was still making my living doing AI consulting, I'd have been in the first time I saw it.

EdinNJThanks again for the kind words. We are actually about to get into the photography world in a big way, there's a Kickstarter coming next week, and of course all those products will be available on Massdrop :).
I got into mirrorless (Sony A7s) and vintage glass to help with our product photography and videos and fell in love, so we're coming out with a whole system. Message me if you'd like the details, I'd love some pre-launch feedback. Chad@allegorygoods.com

AllegoryGoodsProfessional shooters travel with few but flexible lenses. Look up the "Bob Krist Bag" that LL Bean used to sell, in nylon and leather. Three professional grade zoom lenses, two bodies, and two spaces that could be used for flashes or a fast prime. Also - there are bags from getting your gear to a location, and then you pack bags on location. I'll email you with what I know from all the whining and moaning by professional photographers.
I shoot three different systems, small light m4/3, Fuji mirrorless primes, and top end Nikon DSLRs. No bag I own works for more than one of them. Sigh.

EdinNJAnd just to add; I've never regretted this purchase- it's one of my go to bags when I'm getting ready to take a quick trip.

AllegoryGoodsI'm in on the drop. I may have to sacrifice it as a gift to my daughter, but it looks like good odds it'll come around again.
I'll email you some thoughts on photographer bags. My biggest issue with lovely leather bags is that I shoot in places like Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Brazil... or in the US, the Bronx, inner city Chicago, etc. I'll share what I, and a few friends, have learned...
