Product Description
Made in collaboration with our friends at Allegory, a Kickstarter-born Chicago shop dedicated to handcrafted, small-batch manufacturing, this notebook cover is available only on Massdrop. It’s specially designed to protect your Field Notes and other pocket notebooks Read More
The leather is good. Engraving not too much. 80$ means 35€ in customs. I never have received the field notes... Definitely, I wouldn't recommend it (at least, outside the US)
I love the feel of the leather. It's going to age well and provide years of service.
Looking back, I wish I'd ordered it without the attached pen pocket, it's a little larger than I thought it would be.
Fine quality leather with hand stitching. Contrast between print and leather was low.
I liked the product. It was high quality. The only issue was that the there was little contrast between the inscription and the leather which made the inscription difficult to read.
Edit 2: Massdrop reached out to me and offered what I thought was a fair offer. I never did reach out to Allegory leather, despite their efforts (entirely my fault). I actually just kept it, and overlook the engraving. Other than the engraving, it's a lovely piece of leatherworking. I'm considering buying a blank one, so that I can retire my defective one. It's that nice.
Original:
I want to love it. The leather is good, the stitching is excellent. However, the engraving is near unreadable except in very certain light conditions. From the pictures, I assumed that they used a dye or something to make them pop: they do not. The edges of the engraving are also very rough: my letters blur into each other. If I hadn't paid extra for it, I might be willing to let it go, but it just ruins the whole look. The leather also isn't too well trimmed on the stitched flaps: mine has some areas where it sticks up. It also leaves a brown line on the page, but I assume that that will stop after a little while: not a big issue.
Takeaway: I'm glad I saw these things now, vs. after I joined another Allegory Leather drop. It's not bad, but the fit and finish isn't there, and I will not be buying any more of their products.

Look at my first name! That's not even recognizable as an "s"! I also have it at this weird angle because that's the only angle at which you can come close to reading the engraving.

Notice here how it disappears? That happens in almost all light conditions.

Edit: I have put in a support ticket to get this resolved; we will see how their customer service is!
They reached out to me, and I completely forgot to do anything about it. I still carry this, because it does the job. I'm considering ordering another one, actually. Just no engraving this time.
