Whoever posts these listings needs to use the black/stainless steel version as the main pic. Not many are keen on a gold watch. You've eliminated plenty of potential customers doing so. Just my opinion.

mrandersen10Just a FYI- I'm certain Massdrop knows exactly what they are doing when they choose the main listing picture. As you note, most people are inclined to judge from that pic- love it or hate it. They are also more likely to buy the one in the first pic. So, any smart marketer would put the model which may have the most units left to sell as that first photo. People are, by nature, mostly followers. Most will want that initial model seen. As you'll notice, that model which you complained about is the first (and only,10/20/18) model which is sold out. Further, gold-tones are coming back into the fray of late, as I would argue all alternatively finished watches are (E.g. black pvd, bronze, brass). I think Massdrop know exactly what they are doing.

mrfuriouserThanks for the response. I'm sure they know what they're doing, but that doesn't mean the marketing team is infallible. I personally believe it's a mistake to use the most "gaudy" piece to highlight this model. In my opinion, if they had used the more sporty black model -- sporty as opposed to ostentatious, which I believe most massdroppers would relate to -- perhaps more than double the pieces would have already been sold. You also mention the possible need to move those gold/white units. But apparently there were only 8 pieces! They most be quite desperate to risk sales of all the other models just to get rid of 8 watches.

mrandersen10Right on. I have seen (in both watches and writing categories) Massdrop as a sort of end-run clearinghouse. This drop has only 20 units total, so maybe they thought to place the largest piece alotment unit in the first photo. Obviously I'm spit-balling here. I wasn't trying to imply your points are incorrect; just adding some other points of consideration for others to think about. If they don't move all the pieces now, the remainder will drop again sometime in the future. We'll learn something if they change the listing. I must admit I really have no idea about who the typical "Massdroppers" are- you got me there. I think I found Massdrop on my own while watch shopping last year, so I really never saw any of their marketing. Cheers mate!

mrfuriouserBtw, how do you know there are only 20 units total? Sorry, haven't had too much experience with this site yet. Thanks.

mrandersen10Between the main title header and the join drop button, right after the # of units sold. They don't show that info all of the time, but on some drops it is there.
