Do I understand correctly that the seconds are not shown with the seconds' hand actually showing the chronometer seconds? (English is not my native so I am unsure what the caliber description actually says..)

PepiXI don't think there is a second hand on this watch. the second hand is the chronometer second hand and only activates with the top right button. on a normal valjoux 7750 the seconds are normally displayed by a third dial on the left side of the face, but it seems that for symmetry this was removed at the cost of being able to tell the seconds. This is a bit strange for a diving watch since you should have some way to confirm it is functioning without having to press the chronometer, and this is usually accomplished by checking to make sure the second hand is moving. this review is fairly in depth. there does not appear to be a second hand which he talks about at 6:45.

PepiXThe AL-725 movement is a Valjoux 7750 slightly modified by Alpina. A regular 7750 has a day-date complication at three o'clock, a 30 minute register at 12 o'clock, a 12 hour register at six o'clock and a running seconds subdial at nine o'clock. The modifications Alpina make are adding a custom winding rotor and the removal of the day and running seconds complications. So, as lobster pointed out, you can't tell the watch is running just by looking at it (no running seconds). Well, you can tell... by either activatinv the chronograph or by staring at the minute hand to see if it moves... : )
