Altra Escalante Running Shoes

Blending performance and leisure, the Altra Escalante running shoes are great for training, road running, or casual walks around town. Featuring a mesh knit upper with a sock-like fit, the shoes rely on a dual-natured AltraEGO midsole and InnerFlex technology to reduce the impact of hard surfaces and deliver flexible, responsive performance. The FootShape toe box encourages natural toe splay and keeps the big toe straight for more comfort, stability, and power. FootPods on the outsole map the metatarsals for more adaptive, individualized cushioning across the foot. Finally, the proprietary Zero Drop platform ensures an ideal weight balance from heel to forefoot.

Altra was born in the back room of a Wasatch Mountains running store, where owner Golden Harper met countless runners who complained of knee pain, shin splints, and other injuries from traditional pointed toe boxes and thick, heavy heels. A competitive runner himself, Golden began experimenting with shoe alterations to solve his customers’ problems. By melting the outsoles (in his trusty toaster oven!), he was able to remove the excess heel elevation for a more natural, relaxed foot position. The new platform design was dubbed Zero Drop.
